This may explain Staling's exclusion from the list. But, I did hear a rumor that Starling wasn't exactly sounding gung ho about playing for the Cyclones in 08-09.

Since the Cyclones only sign their players to one year deals qualifing offers are important to keep key players.

I hadn't heard about Starling's reluctantance to play. He has been playing professional hockey since 98 or 99 (and major junior prior to that) and knows the contract game for sure.

With the way the seson ended I am sure everyone wants to come back but room has to be made for our affiliated players and other players we may acquire. Free agency doesn't bother me. Teemu Selanne is a free agent every year. Yet he will only sign with the Ducks.

There is no doubt we will lose some guys; and we will gain some new ones but we have to be a preferred team. Who would want to sign with Dayton (No affiliation) or Mississippi (Spend at least 72 hours every week on a bus!) ?

well yeah were going to lose some players... I am surprised thought hat Hamilton only grabbed two while Milwaukee I havent heard anything from Milwaukee. Starling had better come back because with DD in Hamilton for next year, he is our best player and captain.

Speaking of: I failed to think about this... but why didnt Chuck just name him the captain? Why were there three A's and no C's? I mean, Chad accepted all the trophies and yet he wasnt a full fledged captain! In the words of WWE's own Hurricane: WHAZAPWITDAT!?

From what I remembered hearing was that no one really stepped up to the plate as a true captain, but rather a few of the guys worked together and those were the guys chosen as captains for the year but they just gave them all A's instead of giving out 1 C.

Also I don't think Starls is the best player we have from last year nor the best captain, because as I said it was a team effort this year with no real captain on the ice. The whole team encouraged the whole team to play their best and thats all you can ask for.

Also another thing is we don't know if DD will be in Hamilton all next year yet because we have to see what happens in the training camps. But I am sure he will at least be up there for a ltitle bit if he doesn't make it the entire season.

could it be that the key elements of last season's team are going to be in Cincinnati this year?

My 'source' was just someone who talked to him casually. Not exactly something to bring to the bank. Also, I've noticed that alot of teams haven't used the qualifying offers on veterans. Rowe in Johnstown, the Ferraros in Las Vegas, for examples, haven't been extended offers. Perhaps that's the way its handled with older veteran players. I've never paid much attention to this stuff in the past.

I would agree that we will be a preferred team. We still have Weber-which greatly surprises me. That could change, but as the weeks go on it becomes less likely.

Not only are the Cyclones the defending Champs, the team has a nice facility, a great coach, stable and well-financed ownership, one of the best non-beach ECHL cities, reasonable travel demands, and will have at least one strong affilition again next season. Weber has proved himself to be an outstanding judge of talent and an equally adept recruiter. With the HUGE finals playoff crowds and increased media attention as well, there are many reason a player would sign here over many of our competitors. How would Dayton win out over us on any free agent both would pursue? Other than someone like Tifu or Labenski who have played there. I can't imagine us coming in second best to anyone in our division in the recruiting game with the possible exception of Reading. And they don't even have a coach now.

Does anybody know why Cory Urquhart is listed as an unrestricted free agent with Phoenix? I thought he was signed with Montreal.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Cory was traded for Latendresse. As best I recall, Urquhart's deal with Hamilton expired at the end of this past season. It must have or he wouldn't be a UFA.

Wouldn't be a bad signing for us. I'd think he'd do the European deal at this point in his career. If it's available to him.

My feeling with Cory is that the last time he got called up, before going to Phoenix, is that he mouthed off to someone & Hamilton/Montreal decided to dump him. He's a good player, I'll give you that, but he has a major attitude problem. Maybe Europe would be the best thing for him.

It's a good chance an AHL team would pick him up.....Thats where he really belongs anyway. Maybe he learned his lesson by now with what happened to him in Hamilton.
