Given that he's played very well in the AHL, I'm a bit surprised he wasn't able to land a reasonably good AHL offer. Perhaps he had offers and decided upon Europe anyway.
The release says his coach will be Bill Gilligan. If it's who I think it is, then Dov will be playing for a former Cincinnati Stinger.

I'm going to be the downer poster on this topic. I'm thinking that he maybe didn't even get any AHL offers & realized Europe would be the best thing for him. I agree with all of you that it is a shame if Dov didn't even get a look see by other teams. I'm sure he'll do just fine there.
Don't forget that Jason Deitsch started out in Europe and ended up with us. Maybe the fact he wasn't even on our playoff roster and Maxime was played into things. I wish him the best of luck and hope he still gets to the NHL in the future.

Maybe Dov thought this would be a better chance to be the number 1 goalie on a team instead of one game a week.
Dov wasn't going to get a full time shot in the AHL without a two way deal with an NHL club. Teams generally only carry two goalies; a starter and a backup. The AHL team will carry the #3 and #4 goalies for the parent club. The only place he would play is an AHL affiliate that was only going to have one affiliated goalie.
Dov has proven himself an a competent AHL level goalie; he just wasn't signed. He will do well in Europe and I wish him well and thank him for his efforts here.
