Jason Deitsch has signed with the Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League. Deitsch spent parts of the last two seasons with the Cyclones, recording 39 goals and 67 assists with 179 penalty minutes in 107 games.

Hard to believe him dropping to the CHL,but the impression I got of his play last year was off from 2006. After coming back from Europe, his play seemed to be less on hockey skill and more on hockey "tough". Many times he was instigating fights with opposing players and taking dumb penalties at crucial times. If he would have stayed from the beginning last year with us, he might be signing an AHL contract and not a CHL contract. Jason might not have first line NHL talent, but down the road he might have had third line NHL or first line AHL talent. Maybe he will get back to playing "hockey" and we will see him back later in the year. |

| Like last year, I didn't think we had him back, but hell you never know anymore, he might come back after playing in the C for a while. |

I have some thoughts on Jason Deitsch, all of them generally positive.
One. It is possible that he is looking for greener pastures, although I would argue that, at this juncture, there are not many AA greener pastures than Cincinnati.
Two. I agree that he seemed to perform better in 06/07 than he did in 07/08. On the other hand, with a different hero seeming to step up every night (in 07/08), there were arguably fewer opportunities for one guy to consistently be that hero. I don't closely follow the CHL and therefore don't know much about the team with which he signed...he might be looking for an opportunity to better highlight his skills via a team that greatly needs his assistance. At 28, time is running out on him - he needs to get to the AHL in the near future. The question is, does this CHL team present him with a quicker route to the next level than does the ECHL championship team from Cincinnati? Doubtful, but, then, I am prejudiced.
Three. He might be trying to see the world (various leagues in different countries). What better way to travel and experience the world than to be paid to do so, doing something you love, in front of cheering crowds, before hanging up the skates.
Four. I love to watch this guy play. I hope he makes it to the next level. In the event he finishes his hockey career in AA, I would love to have him back in Cincinnati. |

The caliber of play in the CHL is comporable to the ECHL. The best players in the CHL would be among the best players in the ECHL. Deitsch is in a good spot if Houston or San Antonio of the AHL need to fill a roster spot. |

Yes, maybe I spoke wrong on the CHL because looking at some of the rosters it seems like it is now the home for multi-year ECHL veterans.I was thinking of the old CHL days when Indy played in it. The fact he has a tryout with Houston might mean he will play for Houston or Texas(Dallas area)allowing Aeros easy availibility for quick call-ups if he doesn't make the team. |
