ROBERVALE, Quebec – Cincinnati Cyclones center David Desharnais assisted on a goal for the Montreal Canadiens in a 3-2 preseason win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. Desharnais assisted on a shorthanded goal by Andrei Kostitsyn late in the second period to give Montreal a 2-0 edge.

Desharnais, 22, is participating in training camp with the Canadiens and dressed for the first time with his hometown team in a game played just 65 miles from where he amassed 374 points during his junior career (Chicoutimi). David, was further honored by being selected to the starting lineup for the Canadiens and participating in the ceremonial faceoff prior to the start of the game. Cyclones teammate Mathieu Aubin skated part of the game on his line.

Desharnais appeared in 68 games, posting 29 goals, a team-record 77 assists for a league leading 106 points for the Cyclones ast season. From December 31 through March 12, David turned in a 27-game point scoring streak and a league-record 20-game assist streak. He also posted 34 multiple point games during the regular season. During the Kelly Cup Playoffs, his 33 points (10-23-33) led all players—eleven more than the next highest total.

The five-foot-six, 177 pound native of Quebec City, Quebec, spent four seasons playing junior hockey with nearby Chicoutimi—scoring 126 goals and 248 assists in 262 games over four seasons prior to joining the Cyclones.

“David was deserving of this chance,” Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. “He worked hard last season and during this past summer to prepare himself for this chance. We look forward to seeing him and other Cyclones playing in the NHL. We wish him the best.”

Tickets for the 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 144. The Cyclones open the season at Wheeling on Friday, October 17 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Dayton on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30pm. There will be a special Kelly Cup championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.

So glad to hear that DD put in a solid effort.

It was such a treat to see a player of his caliber perform over the course of an entire season. For $10 a pop!

Did anyone else try and watch this online???? I got an error that said that the game was UNAVAILABLE in my AREA :(

That made what was going to be a fun night watching the start of 'our hockey season' with my 3 year old a night of me explaining why he didn't get to see DD. :(

I ended up listening to the Buffalo broadcast, couldn't find Montreal's broadcast in English. Buffalo has got to have the most boring announcer.

The game was on NHL network (which I have top shell out an additional 3.95 a month to TW, bastards ). DD did not look out of place at all and was on the second team PP and PK and won the majority of his faceoffs. His assist was a good pass around the defense.

Most telling stat was that he was on the ice after Buffalo pulled their goaltender.

While I doubt he will make the Habs he will be a fixture in Hamilton.

It wasn't available online in the US. Thank God I actually found a bar in KY with the NHL Network. :)
