Johnstown, Pa. – The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced today that they have re-signed forward Mike Sgroi.

“We’re pleased to have Mike back for this season. He’s a proven physical presence on the ice who can also contribute offensively. It’s going to be great to have a fan favorite return that will undoubtedly provide energy and excitement,” said Chiefs Vice President and General Manager Bill Bredin.

Sgroi, 30, was acquired on January 8, 2008 via a trade with Pensacola in a deal that sent rookie forward Mike Cohen to the Ice Pilots. Sgroi had an immediate impact as he picked up one goal and two assists for the Chiefs in his debut on January 12 against Reading. He would finish the regular season on a goal-scoring surge which saw him tally six times, including a hat trick against Cincinnati on March 29. In all, Sgroi had 25 points (13G, 12A) and a team-high 192 penalty minutes in 27 games with Johnstown.

The 6’5, 230-pound forward from Toronto, Ontario is currently recovering from a broken hand that he suffered while at training camp with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch.

yeah those that were in Johnstown for that series really saw him loose it when Conrad made him fall right before a face off... it was pretty damn funny... his face was as red as the center line!

Even funnier was his crying as he left the ice.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

This guy can be a really good player when he wants to be. It's a shame he'd rather be a pit fighter than a hockey player. Doesn't take much to throw this guy off his game. A few pushes here and there after the whistle and this guy turns into frankenstein. Not to mention he acts like everyone on the ice wants to fight him. I don't think anyone does. I'm tired of that "I've got something to prove" b.s. Just play hockey, man!
