Could this be part of the reason for his release?

Just a thought. I would not think this would go over well with Chuck.

Greetings from SLC...

NINE games for a suspension seems extemely steep. I wonder if they let him go so they could pick up someone in his absence and then re-aquire him later if he's still around.

I haven't seen him in person so i'll withhold further comment but nine games is an awful long time.

If he threw the stick over the glass, this means it went into the stands. The
chances of a fan being injured is too great to not give a heavy penalty by the
league.Add to it that we were on the road and the penalty sounds right. Not
having seen him but seeing the amount of penalties and bad opinions from our
fans,it sounds like we probably will see him later in an Elmira jersey.

Maybe more suspension was added for all of his stupid penalties in Dayton last weekend (which all resulted in goals).

Still has to serve his nine games. Then he can lose it with the rest of the Jackholes.

Maybe they just want to turn him into one of their goons....at least one that assaults fans.

The more & more I think about this move the more I think this was Chuck Weber making a statement. Grimaldi was a healthy scratch Saturday vs. Dayton. Now cutting our most experienced defenseman after only 4 games even with a suspension coming up speaks volumes.

Grimaldi was the first Cyclone signed for this year; even before the protected list came out. The first signing for Weber is always a veteran defenseman (see Starling, Chad 06-07 & 07-08) . While Grimaldi was not a defensive defenseman who avoided penalties he was a veteran who could (and should have) lead a very young and inexperienced defense.

Perhaps another defensive leader has stepped up. With McDonald gone for a while I wonder if BIB hasn't stepped up in a big way.

I also think that the release of Joe makes a HUGE statement. If this doesn't shake up the rest of the players, then it should. It tells me that no one is safe if Chuck & Dean don't think the player(s) are doing their job. Based on past experiences with Elmira, they can have him back!

As stated earlier, good riddance to the garbage.

Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.
