Well...the offense sure can score ! I guess its nice that scoring is coming from damn near all the forwards, with a occassional D-man thrown in for good measure, not just one or two guys.

The defense....leaves a lot to be desired. 27 shots is not a lot or a little. Poor passing and turnovers/clearing rebounds can be eliminated with good coaching: in time this unit will improve but its taking a little while.

The goaltending....7 goals on 27 shots is not good. Rebound control is a problem. Gajewski didn't have a good game. I would like to think help is on the way.

Joe Ryan/Mitch Woods... had fights that had no effect on the outcome of the game. (Just had to add his 'cause its big deal for some)

As has been the case the first month of the season, this is just not a good hockey team at all. They proved it on opening weekend and it's continuing. The bright spot is that the games aren't boring at least. If you like high scoring and piss poor defense the 08-09 Cyclones are the team to watch.

i don't think it's a problem with the physical ability of the team. i'm wondering about how "hockey smart" they are. the first year team wasn't the most skilled but they had great knowledge of the game. the second team added some skill and went all the way. i think this years team has skill i just question their ability to play chuck's style/systems, especially in the defensive zone. i haven't noticed it improve at all.

we have been very spoiled from a goal tending stand point the last 2 years. this year is a different story. until we know the status of lacasse or if milwaukee will move kyle, chuck's hands are kind of tied. kyle may turn into a great goalie at this level, only time will tell. at this point, however, i don't think he's ready. his has little rebound control and his reaction times are a little on the slow side.

Why does everyone have to compare this year or any year with the past?? Face it! ECHL teams are never the same year after year.. called minor league hockey. Yes it sucks that we don't have last year's team but we are just going to have to make the best out of this years team regardless of who we have. Just stick with it.. early still in season. Hopefully we can make playoffs

Let's GO CYCLONES! and Blue Jackets! and Miami RedHawks!

So at what point do we get concerned? I was concerned after the game on October 17. Someone after the opening weekend debacle said wait until they go 0-6 or something to be worried, well here we are now a dozen games in and things aren't getting better. They've played 12 games and practice almost every day, so why isn't it getting better? There's only 60 games left and even though that seems like a lot it will go by pretty quick and if we continue to be buried near the bottom of the standings it will take even longer to get out. There's no excuse for scoring over 4 goals per game and losing 7 out of 12 games. I have no idea what Chuck needs to do with the lack of defense to get things turned around, but he needs to do something different because whatever he's been doing this first month hasn't worked.

Does anyone know why Perkins hasn't played since the first weekend? IMO he is one of our better d-men and needs to be playing. He is a quality puck moving d-man. Sit Macdonald because he has been awful so far. The AHL can have him for all I care. Makway doesn't impress me much either.

The time for concern has come. I look for some line up changes especially on defense. Perhaps Perkins is really hurt...maybe someone should wander up to SportsPlus and see who's practicing.

I like Elvis's observation about their "Hockey Smarts". The defense obviously isn't getting it for whatever reason. Still I will give them time...(what else can we do?)

After a bit of reflection about the goaltending... Gajewski makes one additional save and we are in OT, two and we win. He doesn't have to be spectacular, just a small bit improved. Make two additional saves and your offense can bail you out. He's not going to be great (or even good) overnight; he just needs to make that additional save or two. Just keep us in the game (Which for the most part he did). I just hope we sign someone to give him the odd night off.

Gotta go to Dallas...

A touchdown per game against is getting old. Shots on goal are way down, but Gajewski just isn't getting the job done right now. As as been mentioned, he seems to have a slow reaction time. He's let in so many shots from the point it's scary.

Still, he only has 10 professional games under his belt. Evidently, Nashville/Milwaukee saw enough talent demonstrated at the OHL to sign him. Still, he's an undrafted player. So, there isn't much investment in him. If he doesn't turn the corner, then I'd hope that the affiliate would be willing to admit a mistake and let us drop him and move on. I would think that by the first of the year, the scouts would be able to make a decision on whether the kid is a worthwhile project or a bust. I'd hate for us to be saddled with a player who doesn't have a future with Milwaukee and is just being kept around because a contract was signed. His buyout wouldn't be significant.

Even mediocre goaltending would allow for the offensively-dynamic Cyclones (2nd in goals scored per game in the entire ECHL) to be a strong competitor. Terrible goaltending won't cut it no matter how many goals we score. While our defense is hardly impressive, I don't think that it is the reason that we've allowed 14 goals in the last two games.
