Martin had quit the Montreal Canadiens training camp and probably would have never been here had he not done so. He was already signed to a deal with Hamilton. The mere fact that we had him as long as we did was a bonus. He didn't do his cause any good by quitting and was probably convinced that his future with Hamilton wasn't good when St. Denis got called up when Hamilton needed defensive help. Europe was probably his only way out of the ECHL this season. If the team had been better, then perhaps he would have stayed. Perhaps not. Either way, he'll be making a hell of a lot more $$ by going to Europe.
Cohen is leaving on a high note. Prior to his scoring explosion last weekend, he wasn't much of a major contributor.
2 more leaving? Are MacLeod and Lynch going to be signed by an NHL team? LOL

cohen was the hot guy on the list of players that chuck had made available to phx way back when we needed defensemen and picked up sawatske. phx needed to add speed and scoring. i hate to see cohen's speed go, the kid had huge upside...
conrad martin...everyone stop their whining about him leaving right now. this was a hot topic at the coach's show and here's what we learned straight from the coach's mouth and conrad's for that matter: 1. conrad had decided that this was going to be his last year of hockey regardless. 2. in mtl camp it became apparent that he was an ahl-echl yo-yo rather than an ahl-nhl yo-yo. 3. he "retired" from north american hockey to pursue a season in europe. 4. when he came back to play for us chuck and dean knew his intentions were to play in europe, so when an offer he came he took it.
granted it still sucks to lose a core defenseman, especially when things were starting to click on the blueline. good luck conrad and thanks for last years magical season and the help this year...
on a related side note....everyone seems to think that there might be something going on internally with the team that is causing players to leave. the only thing going on is that europe is offering so much money that kids that know they have no nhl future or even little hope of an ahl future can't help to leave. specific number's weren't discussed at the show regarding conrad's deal but it was put this way; conrad would need to play for 2 and a half years to make what he was going to in 3 months playing in austria. that is a good wad of cash for a kid in his twenties looking to start his future. conrad had won a championship in the echl, what more did he have to prove? |

Very interesting insight. I never thought players were "jumping ship" and this post makes sense, especially since it came driectly from the horse's mouth. Glad to see the rumors put to bed. |

| I think Hammer said more bad news because we still have to send a player to complete the trade with Stockton so we know one will be lost to another team and not europe |
