This could be a good pick up like Houle but lets just hope he doesnt bail on us, a pretty good record and a good pair with Juice if Juice keeps up what he did in Johnstown and not last night

can't say that i'll miss grover all that much. he is a solid player with a big shot but with the addition of coghlan and o'hanely, who, from what i've seen so far are better all around players, donny became expendable.

i remember ryan nie from j-town last season. he's not a ceddy, dov, or max but i think he'll be a more than capable addition to the kyle and loic. he has a few years under his belt and last season he had a gaa under 3 while playing for a team that really wasn't very good.

it's really easy to look at this trade and think "down grade" but just like with the trade for cody last season, you have to give up something to get something. the addition of coghlan and o'hanely gave chuck some extra d-men to work with. i highly doubt bakersfield would have let nie go for a guy like lynch or sawatske.

time will tell but with the inconsistent goal tending we've had i think the upside of acquiring another goalie far outweighs what we gave up...

I remember Nie from last year. He played pretty hard against us both in the regular season and the playoffs, despite a ton of offensive threats against him and a rather porous defense in front of him.

Houle's departure and Lacasse's call up has left us behind the eight ball in the goalie department. As determined as I am to be a Gajewski supporter the fact remains he needs more seasoning to be anything more than a backup at this level. Perhaps Nie will bring a form of leadership where Gajewski can learn and progress at his own pace and in time be an effective goalie at the ECHL (or higher) level.

Unfortunately I think we have traded our second best remaining defenseman to shore up the goaltending. I always thought Grover was sort of a McElroy "Light". He could dish out the hits and handled the puck well and could be counted on for responsible if not flashy play on the blue line. His shot from the point was better than average.

Our remaining defensemen need to gel quickly and give a Nie a chance to be a quality goaltender here in Cincinnati.

Lastly I noticed on the ECHL's website the league calls us the "Kelly Cup Champion Cincinnati Cyclones" whereas our press release refers to us as simply "The Cincinnati Cyclones". I wonder if the Kelly Cup comes with a quick release. I doubt it as I think Coach Weber would have pulled it by now.

NIE! I won't lie(didn't mean to rhyme) but after seeing what he could do last year and looking at how he has been this year, this could be a god-send.

Great move. Losing Houle doesn't hurt so bad now. From what I remember, he was a pretty solid goaltender last year in J-town.

I just wonder how Chuck plans to rotate the goalies now ... will he be doing the Gajewski-Nie tandem or will Nie be saying the majority of starts like Houle?

Well seeing as how Juice hasn't been sucking much as of late, I say rotate them the same way we did when it was Max and Cody.

monday at the coach's show chuck mentioned that trading for a goalie was something that was in the cards and that if he did bring a new goalie in he would probably keep the 3-headed monster and let the goalies sort it out...the guy that plays the best gets the starts.

Thats a good thing for goalies. It gives you more motivation to play harder and better. When I was playing in high school thats how I sorted it out with my fellow goaltender. It was based on the best play in past games and at practice, the harder you worked the more starts you got.

I'm excited to have a goaltender than can at least give Juice off nights since we couldn't play Lee except under an emergency case. I'm a Grover fan though and I'm just hoping we get our "money's worth" on this one. Time will tell!

And excuse me, but can you please capitalize "I?"
