If you're curious about any of last year's guys, that's a speadsheet of what they're up to these days. The Euro stats are iffy, but all of the others should be current. :)
Notable is the dominant presence on the Hamilton Bulldogs - not only are they sticking, they're succeeding. Desharnais is 2nd on the team in points, Russell is tops in plus minus, and Aubin has something like three goals in five games since returning from an injury (all three assisted by Russell), and Latendresse is putting up respectable numbers as well.
Good to see! :) |

I'll second that!
Took him 2 years to actually DO something. (damnit...not to take credit for what he did last year, but where was he in year #1?)

| Wow, I figured people would have at least gotten it right now. Starling was not a player who was going to or was supposed to light up the scoreboard. |

Its not the goals though, I mean his assists should be up, he got plenty here, and I know he has had a decent amount of penalty minutes in the past.
But being this far into the season I figured there would be at least a 1 in the goal column. |

Not asking for a defenseman that can score...just one that can help out his team, dive in front of a puck, and push out an opposition player when they stand over out goalie.
Sorry, but if you were at the Trenton game 2 fridays ago, you'd know what I meant.
We need another Starling or two from last year. Not to knock on him, cause what he did last year was NOT what he did the year prior, when he was slapped with a "C" on his jersey and did nothing to lead the team.
Either way...we're fighting for 1st place now...and we need that fight! |

I think with the current line-up we have we are capable of keeping in the chase and possibly taking that over.
You are right we need more courageous plays out of the D, but its not like we haven't had those plays down the stretch. I mean a 6 game streak doesn't happen without a great D. Of course with Nie in goal it helps a little bit too. |

I was just getting ready to say, "WHAT?" - Down what stretch??? We still have half a season to go....The stretch doesnt even BEGIN for another month or two.
Courageous D, or competent D? We need SMART hockey players in the D position, not ones just putting a uniform on. I remember seeing Conrad and Starling, among others, diving in front of the puck on a shot, saving Cedric or Max from even having to make a save. This, along with D-men that'll push an opposition player out of the crease is something we lack from last years "miracle" squad, however, like your hinting at, we have really come a long way from the beginning of the season and the boys that were playing, compared to the young men that are now.
I only say all this out of the fact that I just realized how much older I am from our players LOL. When the entire team except one player is YOUNGER than you, you reserve the right to call them young men LOL
Im going to bed....Too much Rum and Coke tonight |

Chad Starling was a great stay at home defenseman. He kept the offensive threats to the outside and his greatest stat (+48) reflected that. He lead by example and played hurt most of the year not to mention being paired with a converted defenseman most of the time. He earned his "A" the hard way. His first year he was +24. Not too shabby.
I have no idea what has happened to him in Ontario; I haven't seen them play. When he left here he was hurting; maybe he's still hurt. What I do know is that his two seasons here were very good. Last year he was the runner up for defenseman of the year. Thats pretty hard to top.
I think the D we have now is very competent and match up with anyone in this league.
