i'm really glad that this didn't cost us any points tonite, but i have a serious issue with the "red light is on, but there is no goal" that occurred in the second period.
apparently tim, who is head of the cincinnati off-ice officials, turned the light on because he "thought the puck was going to cross the line."
the bottom line is that, as the head of off-ice officials (that means you are responsible for training others to do these jobs), he should know that you only hit the button when the puck actually goes in. if you hit the button have the balls to stand by your call...and for god's sakes don't hit the button if the puck doesn't cross the line. i could understand this happening if it was someone new, but the head off-0ice official should know his job and should never say "oops, i'm sorry...i thought it was going in.."
perhaps tim should stick to freezing pucks...keep him away from the goal light.... |

| Did Tim accidently read the NFL rule book instead of the ECHL? Sure does sound like he grabbed the wrong rule book. |

Even though it took a conference with all the officials the proper call was made. It would have sucked to have lost by that (non) goal but it is more important to be right. It got sorted out and we're all better for it, right?
So he got excited and hit the button a tad early; I would bet he knows the rulebook more than 99.9% of the people on this board. That includes me. Sorry, but I don't have time to hate.

My only complaint-an honest mistake should have been followed with the honest explanation-not just "NO GOAL". |

| The guy has always been a DOLT! Funny how he didn't go out for a smoke after the oopsie. Keep him in the box and away from making decisions. WE WANT HERBIE!!!! |

| I agree that saying he turned the light on because he "thought" it was going in is as unprofessional as it gets, however I wouldn't have blamed him if he simply though it went in, of course. We bought random seats last night and were low in the corner of 104 and I personally thought on the bounce before it slid out through the crease it was about as close as it gets. I thought it was a no goal, however a friend was positive it was otherwise, who knows. |

| Point is...if you turn on the light, you believe the puck crossed the line. If he thought the puck crossed the line, then he should have been able to talk the referee into calling it a goal. His inability to make a decision and stand by it is why we are all up his a$$. I was on the other end of the ice, so I couldn't tell you if it went in or not and how it did go in if it did. The head of the off-ice officiating crew should have the balls to make the call and stand by it. Instead he panicked, hit the button, then became a coward when he was questioned. Put TIMMAY back in his wheelchair and push him away from the goal!!! |

i want to throw this out on the table...i do appreciate the work that all of the off-ice officials do. they are volunteers and with out them the logistics of an echl wouldn't exist. so thank you to all of the off-ice people who volunteer their time.
and now back to tim.....
this is my point exactly heckler....since he "thought it was going to go it" he should have just THOUGHT about turning the light on. as the head of off-ice officials he should know to only ACTUALLY turn the light on when the puck ACTUALLY crosses the line completely.
had it been someone less experienced i could simply chalk it up to being a mistake, but if the head official can't make a decision and stick with it, or makes the wrong decision then maybe he should stick to jobs that don't require decisions like puck freezing and opening penalty box doors.... |

| I was not happy with the "no goal" light either but I can easily see how it happens. Ever have a test where you press a button when you hear a sound or see a light? I have had such tests and it is real easy to find yourself pressing the button at the wrong time. The official made a mistake and I don't know anyone who manages to never makes a mistake. What are you going to do? Fire the volunteer for not being perfect? Lets be reasonable. |

All I ask is a simple announcement after the fact.If they would have announced to everyone in the arena "No goal-the puck did not fully cross the line", we wouldn't be so mad trying to figure things out.Let's get the honest mistakes fixed at the time it happened-not like the "phantom" make up calls that refs feel they must do. |

| I have to agree with Bags. I sit in Section 126 and went down and asked you folks in Section 60 what your take was. I have the luxury of being able to do that, where the other 6,000 plus fans there would not know who to ask for a second opinion or would be hesitant to do so. The error managed to tick 6500 people off because no one said anything about it not crossing the line, just "No goal." |

| I thought for sure it went in, everyone around me thought so too! I took a picture right after Gordon took the shot and it looks like the puck is in the net. but then again someone else brought up that it still could be in the air! |
