Funny you say that. My brother has been coming down to the games with me lately and the first thing he noticed was "number 23... what is his deal?"

It's nothing personal. But any fan that spends their hard earned money to cheer this team on has every right to bitch about this guy's play.

This guy has the ability. We just want to see the best of him.

Syroczynski's size can work against him in that it sometimes seems that 'big guys' don't hustle.

Syro is a very slow skater. He just is. His acceleration (if you even want to call it that!) is poor. He just doesn't move well. I sit behind the Cyclone's bench and he is as winded as the next guy when he finishes a shift. I don't view him as a slacker in the effort department.

What drives me nuts about the guy is that he doesn't use his size to stick up for teammates who have been abused. Last season Beauregaurd suffered a concussion on a cheap shot vs. Mississippi and Syro did absolutely nothing to the guy who did it even though he was right there. This was not an isolated incident. It's just probably not in his nature to use his size that way. The 'gentle giant' syndrome. It's annoying, but he is who he is.

His lack of willingness to play a physical game along with his lack of speed dooms him to a career in the ECHL. If he played a big man's game then perhaps he could look forward to advancement in his career. But, he will only be called up as a roster fill in given how he plays the game.

Still, the guy is a point producer and clogs up the crease on the power play. Even with his shortcomings, he's still one of the top Cyclone players in my eyes. Even if he ought to wear a dress upon occassion.

Never did I say that I wanted him to fight or even metion the fact the he doesn't EVER check anyone. My issue was with the lack of effort - PERIOD. Pay attention to the words that people write before you make your self look like a fool.

Now I understand why people don't like you here. It took this post by you to make it clear to me. Thanks.

You are the fans that the Cyclones do not need. If I was a player I would laugh at you and see you do any better. Because if you could do any better yourself, I'm sure you would be playing in the NHL... right?

Horray for internet tough guys on a hockey message board.

OH RANDY - WHAT PLANT DID YOU COME FROM???? Sure wasn't the hockey planet. Sounds like you have spent some time in the NHL or AHL or some L. Sciro WILL NEVER play any league higher then the ECHL -in fact he should be back in the IHL next year. I believe the NHL and the AHL clubs look for not only talent, which I think he has, but desire, which he has none... I can honestly say, god I hope he isn't here next year.......... I don't care how big or small you are but play with some desire and heart. If you are big, then don't play like Alice, which he does EVERY game.. He is the biggest pu$$y on this team..

i have to have some issue with this...chico IS lazy when it comes to skating when scoring isn't involved....watch his lack of back checking...watch his get up and go when he is driving down the slot expecting a pass or potential rebound vs the the non-scoring situations...it's been the same all season. last season he did a great job using his size to create time and space for DD and latty and he got a lot of goals and assits out of it. this season, as several have stated, the level of heart, desire, intensity, what ever you want to call it, doesn't seem to be there. if noticed it from the start so i don't think the injury has anything to do with it. i question where his head is...his decision to retire, his decision to come back, then the injury, it has to have some effect.....

There is no debate as to what Syroczynski is; he's an offensive forward. He puts himself in position in front of the net and either knocks the puck in the net or dishes it off to someone who will score.

He's not going to backcheck, he's not going to lay out opposing forwards (despite his size), chances are he'll be the last one back on defense, he's not the fastest skater, he's probably not going to get more than a cup of coffee in the AHL, he may or may not be injured, he's not a complete player, etc, etc, etc.

Yet Coach Weber still has him on the #1 scoring line because HE SCORES! Apparently all of his shortcomings haven't drawn the ire of the coaching staff as he has yet to be a healthy scratch or released. If someone can do the job better they need to step up. From what I've seen Coach Weber makes a change if he thinks its to his advantage (see Gordon, McLeod) but Syro stays in there because he's effective at what he does.

Could he do more? Of course! But as long as Coach Weber keeps him on the number 1 scoring line (and #1 PP line) and he is producing points he deserves to be where he is. As long as everyone else on his line knows where they stand there shouldn't be an issue.

Oh, and Poff, no offense but that would be called "Third Man In"!

JTest..I think you've put an period to that discussion with that last response. So how's about (country slang LOL) we just move forward :)

TJpavlik- you said it right on about Syro, and I dont think anyone can knock on anything you said there. That about sums it up for Syro, and Im saying this because after watching Syro exclusively this weekend in Trenton, I saw a lot of what your talking about, among other's comments.

Those of you that say he DOESNT check the opposition should have been watching the game yesterday. I know some of you may have (or not) seen it on B2, but I saw it first hand, a Trenton player skate across the middle of the rink, and Syro went right up to him and PLOWED him over!!! It was awsome to see in person, and it made me think about all that has been said on this thread lately. I know, it was just one hit, and I saw a lot of "running through the motions" from his body language, but he did take this guy down, and no penalty was involved. Clean and perfect.

Now, lets talk about a few others on this team, cause I can name a few that CONTRIBUTE FAR LESS than Syro.

i thought i'd bring this thread back to life....

since this thread chico bashing thread has come to life i've been watching him and it seems like he's stepping it up a bit.

i've watchied him moving much better without the puck and skating like he actually gives a crap in the defensive zone...it kind of reminds me of the chico of last year...the chico that used is size to create space for his teammates and made people pay in the defensive end. sure he's never going to be the most fleet of foot, but his early season efforts were lacking in comparison to what i see now. and now is when we need him to step up....

cyclonehole...chico has always put up points and i'm sure he'll continue to, but what i'm getting at is his play away from the puck and away from scoring areas. he's moving his feet better and using his size in front of the net but also in the corners to create space for his linemates. these are things he did all of last year but only did in spurts early this season. i truly hope he'll keep it going. if he does he'll not only create more points for his line but for other lines as well...big men willing to do the little things create match up problems for defenses....

It's just funny you say that since you are arguing with people over the INTERNET on a keyboard. I laugh when I hear all of these fans rant and bash our own players so much when they probably can't even ice skate. Instead of bashing the players on a message board they view, why not just give polite suggestions instead of the horrible bashing?

This isn't rocket science, it's common sense on how to treat people with respect. Especially players on a minor league hockey team that are still learning how to play hockey but all of you expect them to be on a NHL level. Give the damn players a break already and cheer them on.

Good points. I think this nit-picking (sp*) at Syro, as I've said, is kinda low, being from fans of our Cyclones. There are others that have done less, and I still say that although his slow skating (what some of you have called lazy) is true, the other parts (scoring, pressence in front of the net, etc) have far overshadowed anything else.

I wouldn't necessarily call it bashing. There are a lot of us who know a lot about the game. We have offered our opinions as to what players can do better to make themselves and the team better. To say that Chico skates too slow(lazy), or he needs to be more of a physical presence(not just fight) is merely a suggestion by some to make Chico a better player and the Clones a better team. We may be at times a lil harsh with our words, but I'll admit to voicing my frustration.

Since this thread started, Chico has done the EXACT things people have been "bashing" him for not doing. His physical play is up. He has been in a couple of fights protecting his line mates. This isn't necessary but great to see. He has been skating with a bit more purpose, and laying the wood to a lot of people along the boards. He also has been camping out in front of the net more. His scoring has skyrocketed, and the team is playing better, AND WINNING.

If Chico's improvement in play is a direct result of this thread, GREAT! If not, then it was just good timing by us fans. Something happened. Either someone read this and told him about it, or Chuck has noticed the same things we have. I really hope Chico isn't pissed at us if he has read it. I really do like the kid and want him (and everyone) to succeed.
