Wow. I am completely blown away. A complete 60 minute effort that has to leave Elmira wondering what kind of buzz saw they just ran into. I saw none of Elmira's vaunted offense or goaltending (according to ECHL.com) and were just a tiny bit chippy as opposed to being the goon squad they know they can be.
Contributions from the secondary scorers.. Sproat, McKenzie and... who, Johnson? Elmira never got on track and never knew where it was coming from next. Johnson's one footed skating exhibition goal was a thing of beauty.
While one game does not a series make, it was a 100% effort that is going to make Elmira have to re-evaluate their game.
Lastly, I love that Mike Sgroi has his own theme song in our building. |

TJ, I'm with you on being blown away with the demolition of Elmira tonight. The Clones did show everyone in house why they are the regular season division champs.
I'm optimistic that we will win tomorrow; however, we still need to play our A game like tonight. The reason is simple: Elmira had a 9 hour trip today. I'm not claiming that they looked awful totally because of the trip, but it appeared to be a major factor. They should be rested for tomorrow's game. I think the Clones will win but it won't be a blow out like tonight. |

Barbie Girl?
Way to go Cyclones! That's a hell of a team you've got there and it looks like they finally got it together offensively, at least for one game. Now, just sweep 'em and get some rest.

Unreal.
Our offense is back on track. Sproat, Kilpatrick AND MACKENZIE combined for FOUR GOALS. Does Weber read this board Van Guilder looked much more like himself last night as well.
JJ's goals were garbage time, so I hope he doesn't start thinking that he's a real hockey player His first goal was pretty sweet though. Great move and perfect shot. His second goal was as the Charman commercial used to say: "softer than a babie's bottom". His primary purpose will probably be needed Saturday.
As tj stated, I was in shock at Elmira's lack of physical play. Sure they threw a few big hits. Chaz Johnson was the only one who played the chippy style that defines Elmira. There was a play when we were up 2-0 when a few of our players took pokes at the puck AFTER it was well under control by Teslak and Elmira did absolutely nothing to them. And no fighting or any real cheap shots after the game had been decided after the early third period goal which made it 5-1 Clones?? Very Strange.
One thing to keep in mind is that Elmira's game 7 was on Tuesday in Trenton. They probably didn't get back home until 5am, had a day of rest, and then probably practiced and jumped on the bus for a glorious 10 hours on Thursday. They could very well have been suffering the playing/travel fatigue which did in the Clones in game 6 vs. Wheeling.
The team needed an easy one. I don't expect a repeat tonight. A win by any margin will certainly put us in the driver's seat in this series given how good a team we are on the road. We are now 21-20 at home and 25-14 on the road this season.

| the travel issue shows just how far an organization will go to make sure the players are taken care of. i know that elmira won it on tues but if they would of left wednesay night say around midnight they would of been in cinci about 10am, the boys would of slept on the bus, they could of went to the arena and had a light practice around noon, ate lunch after and the the boys could of had the rest of the day to rest. game day practice as usual and then game. this means the organization would of had to pay an additonal day of per diem and motel expence. the cyclones organization would of and have done this exact thing, it appears the elmira organization does not and it showed last night the effect it has on the team. |

| I agree it was a tremendous effort, and also agree the travel bug may have played a role. Tonight will be very interesting to say the least, and I think it will be important to get off to a fast start. Don't give them any momentum at all. |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

I think the section 112 crowd needs to continue to get on Elmira. Chaz Johnson, especially, lost his cool last night. After one vociferous interchange with fans, he went out on the ice, took a stupid penalty, and we scored on the powerplay. Hometown advantage! |
