| I just got back from the game. Both teams are very even. I think the Cyclones have more talent but there was a little home cooking tonight. The shots on goal are not an indication of the game tonight. The rays had close to 43 and the Clones had 19. I think it was closer to even. Every time the Rays passed the blue line it seemed they were awarded a shot on goal, the clones had to either ring the post or have the goalie stop play to get a SOG. I know this makes no sense because it only hurts the Rays goalie's percentage, but that is what happened. At 58 seconds left in the third period a very obvious icing was waved off, not allowing the clones to call time out. The result was the empty net goal. In my opion this series comes down to the fans, the Rays are not ready for the Cyclones fans. Be loud, be strong, and believe. The clones need number 7, and that is you!! Send the boys back to Charleston! Its up to you. |

I guess we just disagree. Puck posession was fairly close, but the Rays were able to keep the Clones along the boards for the vast majority of the game. They only had a handful of quality scoring chances. And as far as your fans go..... bring it. That's what playoff hockey is all about. I'm sure our boys are looking forward to whatever comes their way.
PS: Hitting the post isn't considered a shot on goal, but did the Clones hit one? |

| We lost the first two games against Wheeling and looked really bad in doing so. But they seemed to come together after that. Hopefully that will be the case in the next few games. |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Rocco, I gotta seriously diagree. While they Cyclones played much better than they did in game 1, the biggest difference in shots is as simple as players blocking shots. The Rays were very aggressive on defense and the are very good at tying up players in front of the net. I haven't seen the Cyclones committ to shot blocking this series and I'm not sure why. Another major factor was that the Cyclones are having a very hard time with the 'Rays forchecking. Even if you block shots, if you turn the puck over at the blueline (or in your zone), you're going to give up SOGs. If not for some "Wow" saves from Lacasse, this game could have easily been out of hand early. We're simply turning the puck over too much.
Thanks for your hospitality RaysRsharp. Hopefully, the favor will be returned if you come to Cincy. |

Shorty_Rock,
Was great to see you and the Mrs. again this year! Hope you guys enjoyed your stay and that you have a safe trip home. I'm sure there will be some Rays fans up there for the games this week. Stop by and say hi. If we DO decide to make the trip Friday - we'll give you a ring.

Great seeing you again Shorty_Rock and it was also nice meeting Cyclones Rock for the first time.
The Cyclones goalie played great in game 2. I thought the shots on goal was right on. The biggest difference between the two team was blocked shots. The Stingrays D-Men and Forwards were constantly blocking shots before they could get to the Stingrays goalie, whereas the Cyclones rarely blocked a shot.
I thought both teams played better in game 2 than in game 1.
In no way do I think this series is over, but I do feel pretty good about the Stingrays chances now that they are up 2-0.
Hope all the Cyclones fans that made the trip have a safe trip home.

I had an interesting perspective, watching on B2 networks and being unable to see the puck, just the players skating up and down the ice due to execrable feed quality. It was obvious the Rays were in control of the game. The Cyclones looked like bugs running this way and that, never quite making it in one particular direction. The Rays on defense on the other hand kind of fanned out while back checking, then merged together at their defending goal to get in the way of (at least what I imagine was, cause I never did quite see a puck) the shot. I thought we definitely got outplayed, especially the last couple of minutes.
Hoping that things change drastically tomorrow night! Go Clones! |

the rays game plan reminds me a lot of what wheeling did to us. while puck possession was almost even, when the cyclones had possession in the SC end, the rays did an excellent job of pressuring the puck to the corners and halfwall. the rays defense was very aggressive in stifling passing lanes and when the cyclones could generate a shot attempt it seemed as most were from sharp angles or outside the face-off circles and the rays did an excellent job of rushing the shooting lane while at the same time collapsing on the net which usually caused the shot to be blocked or at the very least make it nearly impossible to collect very many rebound or "loose puck in front of the net" type chances.
the rays, much like wheeling, fore checked well and caused a lot of neutral zone turnovers to jump start their transition. if not for the play of loic the score could have been very lopsided. one big difference between the nailers and the rays is this regard is that SC is a much deeper team and it's unlikely that they will tire as much as wheeling did should the series get drawn out.
i'm sure the boys will get their offense back, but the defensesive zone a nd neutral zone play must tighten up if we stand a chance...... |

| I hope the SC fans do make it up for some of the Cincinnati games! :) They were the best fans last year - I had a blast going down there! I'm still 100% for the Clones beating the Stingrays, but if we HAD to lose to someone...I'd be behind the Stingrays to go after the cup! However, they're my SECOND choice ;) |

The SC fans were outstanding. They are universally kind (or so it seems). I finally asked someone to taunt me just so I felt like I was in enemy territory
Game one was a disaster plain and simple. We were thoroughly dominated except for the 3rd period. And that was likely a by-product of SC having a 5 goal lead.
Game 2 may have been closer, but it was less encouraging in many ways than game one. SC is a much faster team than we are. Much. After MacDonald's goal, SC literally swarmed the Cyclones zone and net with a fluency and fury that I hadn't witnessed all season by any team. The tying goal was inevitable given the pressure that they were putting on.
The second SC goal was effectively an odd man rush which occurred when Woll was caught up ice for reasons seemingly unknown. Still, this was the only major defenseman error which resulted in a goal against us-a major improvement for us as our d-men were skated around at will in game #1.
The line of Syro, Van Guilder and Eghoetz-our #1 line- is missing and presumed dead at even strength. They have done absolutely nothing the entire post season. I think that they have 3 even strength goals between them in 13 games. We can't win with this. In the Wheeling and SC series, our offense has all of 19 goals in 9 games-2.1 goals per game. This is not going to get it done.
The effort was certainly there last night. SC's speed stymied us. While our defense played pretty well, SC had loads of room in which to operate-especially in the first period. Our forwards seemed to have trouble keeping up with their backchecks due to SC's far superior speed. Guys seemed to be gassed (very tired) just trying to keep up with the pace of the game.
SC's speed and defensive coverage made mincemeat of the Cyclone's offense. Passing lanes were blocked in the neutral and offensive zones very effectively and when the Cyclones did have good chance for a shot, SC players were throwing their bodies in front of the puck.
Were it not for Lacasse's stellar effort, we could have easily lost this game by a very wide margin. SC outchanced us in real scoring opportunites probably 15-5. The scoreboard was not indicative of how the game was really played.
It's going to take a flawless effort from the Clones to beat this team. We have to play a much better game defensively and be very efficient with our offensive opportunities. All of our forwards need to backheck with abandon-all three of them can't get caught deep in the offensive zone ever. If this were not a Weber-coached team and a team which has responded so well to its many challenges over the past month and a half, then I'd say the series was over. But, our guys are very difficult to count out.
Perhaps Weber can pull some sort of rabbit out of his hat and maybe the SC goalie will go sour. Our first line could come back to life-they're not lacking in effort. The Cyclones haven't lost three in a row for a long time, so game #3 has the potential to be very difficult for SC to take. But, Wednesday is a "must win". If we go down 0-3, it's over. |
