CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced this morning they have signed defenseman Kevin Roeder for the 2009-10 season. Roeder has played the last four years at nearby Miami University.
Roeder, 23, finished his four year career at Miami with five goals and 31 assists for 36 points in 152 games. He amassed a +50 plus/minus rating over his career - including a brilliant +27 mark as a junior (2007-08). He also collected 154 penalty minutes during his time with the Redhawks.
"Kevin Roeder had a tremendous impact on our program over the four years he was here," Miami University Hockey Head Coach Enrico Blasi said. "He was a difference maker in the collegiate game with his physical play. I think he will bring a similar style to the pro game."
The five-foot-nine, 205 pound native of Glenview, IL, earned four varsity letters at Miami. Roeder was an assistant captain for three seasons. Last season, Kevin appeared in 42 games and had a pair of goals and four assists for six points as Miami advanced to the national championship game. He becomes the first Miami University player to sign with the Cyclones since the club returned to action in 2006-07. He will become the ninth former Miami player to play with a Cincinnati Cyclones team (Dan Beaudette, Chris Bergeron, Dan Boyle, Ryan Brindley, Evan Cheverie, Josh Harrold, Tom Neziol and Chuck Thuss are the others).
"Kevin Roeder comes highly regarded as a defensive defenseman," Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "Miami had a great season and he was a key contributor to that success. We are happy to have him launch his pro career here."
The addition of Kevin Roeder brings the number of players on the Cyclones roster to 16. He joins forwards Hans Benson, Jonathan Duchesneau, Kenton Dulle, Barret Ehgoetz, Jimmy Kilpatrick, Adam Krug, Matt Pierce, Brett Robinson, Dustin Sproat and Mark Voakes and defensemen Jamie Coghlan, Doug Krantz, Kirk Medernach, Brian O'Hanley and Jason Woll.
Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. The Cyclones open the season at Elmira on Friday, October 16 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Wheeling on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30pm. There will be a special divisional championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.

| Good pick up anybody from Miami is a good sign and he has really good numbers for a defensemen, and has good leadership possibilities at this level. We should sign people from Miami more often. |

| Okay does Chuck have enough room left for the affliates? Does he know that he is not going to get that many? How many players can be on the roster? He is at 16 right now. |

I have to believe that our goaltenders will come from our affiliates. As for forwards and defensemen I imagine our signees will have to compete with any player assigned to us by our affiliates for the job.
The fact of the matter is its extremely early and some of our signees won't make the final cut. Any minor leaguer worth his salt realizes this and plays their heart out for the privilege of being on the ice. Dreading the (eventual) call to Coach's office ("Management's decieded to make a change...") has to drive more than a few of them. To me thats what makes these guys worth watching vs. their (OVERPAID and I don't give a crap attitude!) brethren down the street.
Last year I talked to Travis Hanson for a while at the meet the team picnic. He played in a few games in 07-08 and thought he was in good shape for 08-09. In spite of being a nice guy he never suited up and was cut in the first week of the season. Unfortunately I imagine a few of our signees will suffer the same fate.
Minor league sports are brutal. Some guys are going to come to the crushing realization that their careers are over (often before they even really got started) and some are going to realize they are going to never going to make it beyond here and this is as good as it gets. Only a VERY select few will ever move on and those that do VERY FEW of them will ever move up from there (Way to go Greg Stewart!).
In any case my hat is off to anyone who laces up the skates and gives it their all for the Cyclones. We cheered you on regardless of whether you played the whole season or just one game. |

| I hope this guy wasn't on the ice for the last minute of regulation of the Championship game. If he was, then trainer Bob Case had best have his Heimlich Maneuver sharp this season. |

Just remember another item on all these signings. Down the road when we have call-ups or injuries, these are the players that pop-up to fill the gaps for a game or two. I can remember seasons when we only had 3 or 4 players signed before the AHL feeds came in. |

| Kevin Roeder is similiar to a defenseman the Cincinnati Swords used to have named Terry Ball (he also spent part of one season with the WHA Stingers). He's small but plays a very physical game and will be a good addition to the team. |

Nice hit towards the end of this video by Kevin Roeder. Hopefully, there will be a lot of hits like this in the upcoming season. |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Interestingly enough he is on the Columbus Blue Jackets training camp roster. http://bluejackets.nhl.com/v2/ext/09TrainingCampRoster.pdf
I can't see him making the team out of camp but he could impress them enough to be signed to an AHL or ECHL deal and be reassigned where ever they choose. He was also at their rookie camp and picked up the primary assist on a short-handed goal against the Blues' rookies. |

he's already been released from columbus and has been sent to syracuse. if they sign him and want to send him to gwinnett (the cbj echl affiliate) we must be compensated. the cyclones own his echl rights and the last time i checked, he could not be assigned elsewhere with out some sort of compensation. if he sticks in syracuse, it would probably under a PTO or ATO and he would be sent our way when released from that contract.
