CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced this morning they have signed forward Kyle Hagel to an ECHL tryout agreement. Hagel will be in Cincinnati when training camp opens on Friday.

Hagel, 24, launched his professional career last season with Fresno (ECHL) playing in 23 games and collecting five goals and three assists for eight points. He also added 97 penalty minutes and was involved in 17 fights. After the Falcons ceased operations at Christmas, Kyle signed with Reading (ECHL) and added 15 games and another two goals and three assists for five points. He picked up another 46 penalty minutes and participated in an additional eight fights. He also played three games with Rochester (AHL) and had one fight while there.

The six-foot, 200 pound native of Hamilton, ON, played four seasons at Princeton—where he was a teammate of Cyclones forward Dustin Sproat. Hagel saw action in 117 games with the Tigers and netted twelve goals and twelve assists for 24 points and 80 career penalty minutes. He was part of the Tigers ECAC championship team in 2007-08. Kyle was a three-time ECAC All-Academic choice at Princeton and was one of the captains of the team his senior year.

"Anytime a player like Kyle Hagel becomes available you try to find a way to bring him in," Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "This will be our most competitive training camp we have had in Cincinnati. We are excited to get things started and see how the pieces will fit for the upcoming season."

Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. The Cyclones open the season at Elmira on Friday, October 16 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Wheeling on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30pm. There will be a special divisional championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.

If I read things correctly Hans Benson is still in San Antonio's camp. We'll need some sort of scraper and Hagel certainly fits the bill.

Interestly enough it seems that Princeton has turned out more than its share of tough guys as George Parros of Anaheim is also a Princeton grad. Maybe Dustin Sproat has a hidden talent we haven't seen as of yet...hmmmmmmm.(Other than that Chemical Engineering thing...)

Sproat got in a fight with Binghamton earlier this year and got ejected from the game, so apparently he can go when need be as well.

Wouldnt hurt to have both Hans and Hagel. Johnson and Salekin worked out well last year
