First off it was great to see hockey live again. Now about the game.
1. Goaltender looked good at times but showed some rookie tendancies.
Late in the game he was out of the crease with the puck and Toledo was
coming straight at him-GET RID OF THE PUCK !! Even if you ice it,goalie
sticks are not made to handle the puck too well.
2. Saw way too much times when VETERAN players were going through the
motions and not attacking the action. Toledo out hustled us and never could
understand the thought of more hustle on the road and more protective
action at home.
3. For the arena- great move only setting up the two front concessions.
If only two, why not go one front and one back.

I thought that the Clones looked very good.

This is a very skilled team. I'm certainly not going to put it on the level of the Kelly Cup team (yet), but this roster has all the makings of a Championship-caliber team.

The offense only scored two goals, but the guys looked amazingly in sync with one another given the fact that they've only had a few days of practice. The third period was completely dominated by the Cyclones; the Toledo goalie was sensational. Our guys were first to the puck and won most of the one-on-one battles. Most of the guys looked to have good hands and it is quite apparent that scoring will not be an issue with this team. Two of the probable top three scorers weren't even in the lineup.

The defense-with the exception of a few giveaways-looked very solid. Making cuts among this group is going to be a very, very difficult process for the coaching staff. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a name missing from the final roster which is a very familiar one. Perhaps Weber will get a bit creative with the IR

The goalies were both decent junior players. Smith was a second round pick a few years ago. I'm sure that there will be "growing pains", but I'll put some faith in the scouting systems of Montreal and Nashville and assume that at least one of these two guys is the real deal.

It's going to be a fun year.

We out shot them 30 to 18 or something close to that and we seemed to be always on the attack later in the game so I certainly didn't feel they were going through the motions. I thought the Toledo goalie made some great saves and we would have won that game against a lot of goalies. Yes we made some mistakes. We hung our goalie out to dry at least twice and one of those resulted in a score (I think the 3rd goal). I was also frustrated at the number of missed passes.

Overall my impression was that we have a talented team that has not quite gotten used to working together and that is certainly to be expected at this point. Connect on a few more passes in front of the opponent's goal and this could be a real fun season.

Of course making predictions based on one exhibition game is not much better than asking the magic 8 ball. Only time will tell if this season will be magic or tragic.

I didn't hear an attendance number announced but I was surprised how many people were there. You need to know however that every season ticket holder got a free meal and free ticket to the game and apparently the season ticket holder count has jumped A LOT. The line for food seemed to stretch forever. I was about finished eating when the last people in line were just getting their food.

I would think that it was every bit of 1500. Perhaps even a bit more.

In Dayton terms (Gems or Bombers), it was 4,378.
