CINCINNATI For the second straight night, the Cincinnati Cyclones claimed a win over the Wheeling Nailers, this time it was a 3-1 decision. Matt Pierce had a goal and an assist and Chris Mueller had a pair of goals for the Cyclones, while Jeremy Smith stopped 19 shots to run his record to 3-0 in goal.
A crowd of 5086 witnessed a win and the unfurling of the 2009 North Division championship bannerthe second straight season that the club had banners to hang.
The first period was a scoreless affair with each team having opportunities to scorebut neither capitalizing. The best chance came for Cincinnati when Mark Voakes came out of the penalty box after serving a minor and having a breakaway that was fired off target. The Cyclones outshot Wheeling, 8-4, in the opening period.
The Cyclones scored twice in the second period to grab a 2-1 lead. Wheeling scored the first goal of the game at 38 seconds of the period when former Cyclone Thomas Beauregard got to a loose rebound at the right post and stuffed it under Cincinnati netminder Jeremy Smith. Two and a half minutes into the stanza, Dustin Sproat had an opportunity to score a penalty shot but did not convert it. The Cyclones did get their first goal 12:39 in, as rookie Matt Pierce tallied his second of the season unassistedafter taking a turnover deep in the Nailers zone and getting behind the defenders. Cincinnati took the lead less than three minutes later when Chris Mueller lit the lamp for the third time this season at 15:00. Mueller fired a shot off the goal post coming up ice and got to a loose puck in the slot and slipped it past Jordan Parise to give the Cyclones their first lead of the night. Pierce and Mark Voakes added the helpers. The shots in the period were even at ten apiece.
Cincinnati scored the only goal of the third period, an empty netter from Mueller that was unassistedhis second of the night, to close the scoring. The Cyclones controlled the shots, 8-6, in the period and 26-20 for the game.
Cincinnati improves to 3-1 on the seasonin second place in the North Division, while Wheeling drops to 1-4. The Cyclones have a few days to recover from the weekend and will be at Elmira on Friday night (October 23 on 1530 Homer) at 7:30pm.

Didn't catch this yesterday....
Cincinnati: Delete Jason Jozsa, D recalled by Milwaukee (AHL)
Was wondering where he was. |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Bummer about Ehgoetz. I had the misfortune of sitting in front of some noisy Nailers fans, but they sure got quiet in the 3rd..
PS - I'm a long time lurker, but first time poster. I figure the start of the new season is as good of a time as any to step out of the shadows. |

I talked to Zinger on Friday in Wheeling and he said he is hurt and not yet cleared to skate. He hopes to be cleared in a week or two. |
