KALAMAZOO, Michigan The Cincinnati Cyclones rallied three times Friday night, but could not get the one that mattered most in a 4-3 shootout loss to Kalamazoo. Scott Reynolds had two goals and an assist for Cincinnati, which dropped to 5-4-1 on the season.

While it was the first official meeting between the Cyclones and K-Wings, the two teams have a history. The teams used to be members of the original International Hockey League from 1992-93 through 1999-2000. The Cyclones posted a 39-15-9 mark against Kalamazoo during this stretch.

Kalamazoo opened the scoring at 8:51 of the first period when sixth-year pro Darryl Lloyd snapped a shot up the left wing side just inside the near side post for his sixth goal of the season. Former Cyclone Sam Ftorek had the lone assist, as the tally was scored four seconds after a power play for the K-Wings had expired. Lloyd had a chance to extend the lead less than a minute later with a penalty shot, but Cincinnati netminder Jeremy Smith thwarted the attempt. The Cyclones leveled the scores with 2.7 seconds remaining in the opening stanza. Scott Reynolds took a feed up the middle of the ice from Barret Ehgoetz and Jason Jozsa and slipped the puck past Jeremy Duchesne. It was the fifth shorthanded goal of the season for Cincinnati and the third lamplighter for Reynolds. The shots on goal favored Kalamazoo, 10-8, in the first 20 minutes.

Kalamazoo netted another goal seconds after a power play opportunity expired to establish a 2-1 edge. Just two seconds after a man-advantage situation expired, Mathieu Curradeau extended his goal scoring streak to five games with his eighth of the campaign, just under the crossbar, from Ryan McGinnis and Rick Cleaver. Cincinnati evened things up at two apiece at 12:53 when tenth-year pro Dwayne Zinger snapped home his first of the year. Off a faceoff to the left of K-Wings netminder Jeremy Duchesne, Reynolds won a draw and Zinger stepped into the shot near the faceoff dot to knot the scores. The period ended with Cincinnati controlling the shots, 13-8.

Curradeau's second of the night and ninth of the season came 6:22 into the third period from Brian McGuirk and McGinnis. The Cyclones deadlocked the game at three when Reynolds deflected in his second goal of the night and fourth of the year at 14:26. The power play tally was assisted by Jozsa and Brian O'Hanley. The shots in the third period favored Cincinnati, 13-6.

Following a scoreless overtime that saw the Cyclones unable to convert a power play opportunitythe contest went to a shootout. In the shootout, Kalamazoo got goals from Curradeau and Darryl Lloyd, while Reynolds planted the sole Cincinnati score. For the game, the shots favored the Cyclones, 38-29.

Jeremy Duchesne was the winning goaltender, stopping 35 of 38 shots to improve his record to 4-0. Jeremy Smith took the shootout loss for Cincinnati, stopping 25 of the 28 shots he faced to drop his record to 3-3-1.

Cincinnati is now 5-4-1 on the yearin third place in the North Division, while Kalamazoo leads the North Division at 9-1-1. The teams meet again in Kalamazoo on Saturday night at 7:30pm. The contest can be heard at: www.cycloneshockey.com.
