KALAMAZOO, Michigan The Kalamazoo Wings used a power play goal, a shorthanded goal and strong goaltending to parlay a 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday night. Former Cincinnati goaltender Ryan Nie turned aside 30 shots in his first appearance against the team he played for a year ago.
Kalamazoo raced to a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. Defenseman Jeff Mason netted his second goal of the year at 3:26 off the left half wall. Mathieu Curadieu and Andrew Forunier had the assists. The lead extended to 2-0 when defenseman Ryan McGinnis tallied his first lamplighter of the year at 12:04 from Mason and Rick Cleaver. Cincinnati spent more than a quarter of the period on the power play but was unable to convert any of the three power play chances. The Cyclones outshot Kalamazoo, 12-10, in the first frame.
The K-Wings extended their lead when Trent Daavettila netted his eight goal of the season at 4:08, a shorthanded effort. The fourth-leading rookie scorer in the ECHL netted his score from Tom Morrow. Kalamazoo now leads the league with 24 second period goals. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati, 13-8, in the frame.
Cincinnati's valiant effort in the third period came up short, as the club scored twice but could not overcome the three goal deficit. Matt Pierce tallied his ninth goal of the season to lead ECHL rookies at 6:02. The five-on-three power play marker came from Dustin Sproat and Jason Jozsa. A four-on-four goal from rookie Kevin Roeder at 14:14 pulled the club to within one, as Brock Sheahan and Scott Reynolds pocketed the helpers. The shots favored the K-Wings, 8-7, in the thirdbut Cincinnati won the shots battle, 32-26.
Cincinnati finished one for eight on the power play, while Kalamazoo was one for five with the extra attacker. Ryan Nie picked up the win for the K-Wings, stopping 30 shots to run his record to 4-0-1 on the season. Jeremy Smith absorbed the loss, turning aside 23 shots as his record dips to 3-4-1 on the campaign.
Cincinnati is now 5-5-1 on the yearin third place in the North Division, while Kalamazoo leads the North Division at 10-1-1. The Cyclones return home to host the annual 'Ohio Lottery presents Education In Hockey Day' game on Tuesday (November 17) at 10:30am against Trenton. The game and the educational program can be heard through the club's website at: www.cycloneshockey.com. Cincinnati and the Devils also meet Wednesday night (November 18) at 7:30pm, also at U.S. Bank Arena.
Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. Selected Friday night games are carried on 1530-AM Homer, while all 72 regular season games can be heard on the club's website at: www.cycloneshockey.com. Cyclones have now lost three straight games, four of their last five and five of their last seven.
Meanwhile, the first-place Bengals improved to 7-2 today with their second win of the season over the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. |

And your point, Donnie? Yeah, this year the Bengals are halfway decent; so what? Take it to the appropriate topic.
It sounds like the Cyclones are still figuring things out for themselves. Injuries and callups have kept things from gelling thus far. I firmly believe this team will achieve a sizable amount of success and start winning on a regular basis much like the Bengals have this year.

Don't forget that after 11 games last season, the Clones were 4-4-3 (11 points) and they ended up winning the division... So I wouldn't put too much stock into the mediocre start. They'll come around... they always do. |

It's a shame that the only thing that makes DH happy is a Cyclones loss! Get a life! |

You wonder why people think that you are a grade A a$$wipe.
In other ridiculous non-related news, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks haven't lost a game since 2005.

If memory serves me correctly, the 'Clones were slow out of the gate for the first six weeks or so last year. All they did was win another division title and go to the conference championship.
As far as the Bungles (and Reds), who cares. I'll take a minor league hockey team with fan-friendly players who play hard every day and an ownership that wants to win over both of these any day. |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

Hey, just wanted to say that I hope regardless of on-ice outcomes that the Cyclones fans that made the trip up had fun. Two good games on the weekend, and decent crowds in Kzoo (4700 for Friday night, 3500 for Saturday).
Officiating wasn't great towards either team Friday night, but not as bad as we've seen so far either. I was in Grand Rapids at the Griffins game on Saturday night, but looking at the boxscore it looks like that second game was just a parade to the penalty box all game long, which always sucks. It's the reason I hate Mayer so much, constant calls disrupting any flow a game can get going.
Hopefully those that traveled had a good time at Wings Stadium though and you'll consider coming up again (Idly, where did anyone stay?).
Everything that I saw Saturday shows that you guys are better than your record indicates. Stlll expecting a battle with you guys and Toledo for the division. |

We had a really good stay (stayed at the Quality Inn). Got to eat some Godfather's Pizza on Friday night (that brought back memories). As for the games, Friday's officials were not very competant. Missed calls and missed off-sides and icing by the linesmen. Saturday's game was a good come-back by the Cyclones but just a bit short. Didn't have any bad experiences at all except for some a-hole with a home-made sign taunting us (the sign said do Cyclones suck or blow"). Like we haven't heard that one before. At least put some thought in the sign (written on a napkin, none the less). All in all, we all had a great time and will be back again.
One question though, why no Tim Horton's in K-zoo? |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Somebeach pretty much said it all. With the one exception already noted everyone was very nice and despite the scores it was a great weekend. I am sure you will again see Cincinnati fans in Wings Stadium. |
Get Clones instead of Clunkers.

Tim Hortons' haven't worked their way that far west yet. Toledo and Detroit have lots of them and I know they're in Jackson, MI now as well (just west of Ann Arbor). They're slowly getting there though. Things like that in Michigan tend to start in Detroit and then work their way westward...
They're not fancy, but the Quality Inn and EconoLodge are always handy places to stay because then you just have to walk across the parking lot, so you can hang around the arena after the game if you want. The EconoLodge used to be the Holiday Inn back in the old IHL days.
Since you guys were up for two days, did you just hang out or drive around a bit? The Kalamazoo Air Zoo (think of a smaller version of Dayton's air museum, and it's free admission) is maybe a mile or so west of Wings Stadium on the south side of the airport, and another mile or so west on I-94 is Westnedge, which is the road that has the Crossroads mall and every place to eat at you can think of (including things like Qdoba and Coldstone). It's nothing to hop over that way if you're staying right by the Stadium. I know there's almost nothing on Sprinkle still after all these years...
And of course there's the brand new (as of August) casino right on I-94 east of Battle Creek that you guys probably saw if you came that way.
Glad you all had a good time. Look forward to having you guys in the building again soon. We're loving life in the ECHL right now... |
