He's on a line with Kostitsyn and Chipchura, should be on the Habs 4th line tonight :)

Bill Davidge of the Blue Jackets on FSOhio gave a good shoutout to JT but said he won a Kelly Cup with the Cincinnati Cyclones, unfortunatley just a year to late Bill, but I wish it was true, was Davidge a commentator for the IHL Clones because Society For Cincinnati Sports Research has a Bill Dvidge listed as a commentator, is this the same Bill?

I view this as a psuedo-Cyclone call up. Wyman had been sent down to the Cyclones. It wasn't as if he was really called up from here. He was returned to Hamilton before last season ended. He was an AHL player from the start who was sent to the ECHL to get some ice time.

The Canadiens have been calling up a lot of players of late. Stewart is in Hamilton on a conditioning stint and will have to be called up within about a week or he'll be subject to waivers and possibly getting claimed by another NHL team.

Desharnais added two assists tonight to give him 10 points (4g6a) in 7 games. Many on the Canadiens message board which I go to have been calling for a DD call up to the Habs. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see him get his first shot at the big time before the first of the year. It seems to be a commonly held view that his time is coming whether it be in Montreal or another NHL organization.

That would be a true Cyclone call up to me.

Correction: Wyman was sent here to be taught to play a different position (Defense). Not to eat up minutes.

That is true. Interesting to note that he is going up to Montreal as a forward.

I wish the kid luck. I just don't view him as a Cyclone in the same sense I do the guys who started here and climbed up the ladder from the ECHL as their original professional starting point.

Guy Boucher (Hamilton's coach) has been quoted as saying that DD is the most talented Hamilton forward. His NHL debut may come as a result of an injury, but his prowess as a player would have earned him an NHL spot at some point soon. Assuming, of course, that he gets called up. Note: Had Desharnais not been injured himself, he probably would have already made his NHL debut.

Some people just can't admit that they were 100% wrong about Desharnais. They claimed that he couldn't make it in the AHL, couldn't play 5 on 5, and would NEVER make it to the NHL.

Some people who have watched tons of hockey know little about evaluating a player's potential. LOL.

There's plenty of evidence on this site and the terminally ill Hackers Grovel to substantiate the above claims.

Anyway, we thought you were "retired" from posting. Because, after all, life is too short to get worked up over minor league hockey

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Former Cincinnati Cyclones forward David Desharnais has been recalled by the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League. Desharnais played with the Cyclones during the Kelly Cup championship season of 2007-08.

Desharnais, 23, is in his third professional season, having played 68 games with the Cyclones during the 2007-08 season. He had 29 goals and 77 assists for 106 points. David was the ECHL's Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player and led the league in scoring that year. The club went on to capture the Brabham Cup for best record in the ECHL and secured the Kelly Cup championship in six games over Las Vegas.

The five-foot-six, 177 pound native of Quebec City, QC, spent last season with Hamilton and played in 77 games, netting 24 goals and collecting 34 assists for 58 points. Desharnais has already appeared in seven games with Hamilton, notching four goals and six assists for ten points after missing the first month of the season with a broken foot.

Of course hrc666 fails to mention that scouts from all 30 NHL organizations didn't think Desharnais could play either, as all 30 NHL teams chose to pass on the chance to draft him and all 30 NHL teams chose to pass on signing him as an undrafted free agent. He didn't earn his first NHL contract until he was two months into his second pro season last season with Hamilton. The scouts from all 30 NHL teams were thinking the same thing about him that I and others on Hecklersgrove did.

He had a real solid season last year with Hamilton and might have been called up if Montreal had a need for someone that could play on the second power play unit, kill penalties and take faceoffs. It's about filling a need -- not someone's stats -- that determins which player(s) get called up. If Montreal needed a fourth line grinder, they're going to call up someone that can fill that role over a guy like Desharnais that might be racking up points.

Don,

We've gone this route before. I formed my opinion on Desharnais based on what I saw in his play and my many years of experience of watching hockey players at various levels. I was able to (properly) project him as a potential NHLer. After seeing him play 3 times last season in the AHL, that analysis was confirmed. And confirmed again today!!

I know that scouting is an inexact science (beyond the no-brain picks) and that most scouting opinions are based upon what the kid looks like at 16 years old. Many fall through the inefficiencies. Desharnais was one of those and I recognized that and you didn't.

Interesting how you've changed your tune on his play of last season. All we heard from you was how he was a third liner and couldn't play 5 on 5.

As for his not getting called up last season, that was probably Montreal's plan all along. To bring DD along slowly. As well they should have. He needed a full season at the AHL level. He may still need some time there. We'll find out now. And another thing (lol). Offensive players are gauged upon their statistical output. Desharnais is an offensive player if you haven't noticed.

You and those who take your word as the ultimate authority on the "it's not dead yet" (haha) hackers grovel have been consistently and completely wrong about Desharnais. Just throw away your anti-Cyclone bias and hockey "expert" pin and enjoy the Cyclones. As you can clearly see now, you've been missing watching NHL prospects develop. It's been fun and will be fun to watch them show their wares at USBA.

Next former Cyclone call up will be Ryan Russell.

As you based your opinion of what you saw of him in 2007-08, I based mine on what I saw of him the two times I saw him play in the AHL at the end of the 2006-07 season for Bridgeport. He was overmatched and the reports on him by the Carolina and Colorado organizations weren't glowing. I only saw him play four times for the Cyclones. He was really good one night, and the other three he was just okay. If I saw as many Cyclones games as you did that season I probably would have had a different opinion.

True, offensive players are gauged on their statistical output, but NHL teams are not going to call up an offensive player to fill a role on the fourth line or as a third line checker. You continually miss the point about that.

Two years ago you had Chuck Weber as a lock for an AHL job. You had him as the front runner for the opening in Hamilton. Looks like you've been wrong about some things, too, as evidenced on this site. :)
