I know someone who is traveling to Wheeling and then to Cincy on Jan. 15th and 16th

Anyways, I know you guys have made trips to Wheeling, and obviously know your own arena as well.

Can you guys offer up any advice and/or tips for visiting the two places? Any bad seats to avoid in either arena? Anything else that's good to know going in to either building?

Thanks.

Primis-I have been to Wheeling many times & would like to offer this advice on their arena. DON'T sit behind the visitors bench-there's a family of "FANS" that are, how shall I say this, rude! I would suggest you sit above the tunnel where the visiting team comes out. You'll be up off the ice but shouldn't get hassled there too much. In regards to Cincinnati's arena, there's not a bad seat in the house unless you're sitting on the ice in the corners. Parking in Cincinnati's East Garage is $10.

Hope this is helpful information.

Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.

It's also not a good idea to sit right behind the visitor's bench (first couple a rows) simply because the view is terrible. Other than that I don't think there's really a bad seat in Wheeling. I've also never been there (even on bobblehead nights) when you wouldn't have been able to move around to other seats.

While the main garage here is $10, there are cheaper options down the road on Pete Rose Way. Notably, there is a decent-sized lot right across from Game Day Cafe that is half the price of the garage, $5, and not much more of a walk. As Susan said, due to the arena's size I don't think I've ever experienced a bad seat.

the only problem stitting above the tunnel where the vistors come out in wheeling is their damn goal horn. if you're in the section right against the wall the view is still good and you're kind of shielded from the horn. it's still loud, but not as bad. be prepared to cover your ears.

at usba, anywhere in the arena other than the first 3 rows is excellent.

These guys are all spendthrifts

Free parking for the Cyclones game on Saturday the 16th will be readily available on the streets of Cincinnati. Parking meters aren't in force on weekends. The most anyone would have to walk is a few blocks. The public landing (located between the river and the arena) is also free. If your friend is arriving early to the game (before 6:30), there should be spots available there if the "landing" is open. Sometimes it is closed due to weather/river levels.

I've been to Wheeling many times over the years. Crowds keep declining. There is no reason to buy advance tickets and I've been able to sit anywhere I've wanted to for years. Free street parking is also readily available in Wheeling.

Lower seats in Wheeling-the first 8 or so rows-dont' have very good sight lines IMO. I prefer sitting in row G or above in USBA. Behind the nets at USBA is pretty bad. The glass is disgracefully marred at the arena and the netting, is well, netting.

Thanks guys.

@Fangers...

If I'd known you were on both here and FYC, I'd have just left it to you... heh. Thanks.

I believe Susan forgot the important stinking Wheeling feeling you get. There is a nauses smell behind there benches that curls the nose hairs! I'm not making this up.

Primis-My wife and I have to travel to Wheeling once a month for medical stuff; if your friend needs lodging overnight, the Nailers have a deal with the McClure House very near the arena (a franchise bought M. House out and I can't remember what it might be called now). For about $100 you get lodging, 2 game tickets, and a $25 voucher for a meal at a sports bar. The only problem is that the room conditions are variable. If he can spring for it, Springhill Suites are an excellent choice.

I don't like to sit at or near the ends---I've never found a problem finding seats at center ice. Like Susan et al said, watch out for the fans from hell by the visitor's bench area.
