12/11/2009 Mark Van Guilder (C) Milwaukee DEL Loaned to Cincinnati (ECHL)

"West Notes: Desjardins dynamite, Moose visit Norfolk...

... Goaltender Cedrick Desjardins personal shutout streak ended at 212:37 on Wednesday when Abbotsfords Riley Armstrong scored late in the third period of the Bulldogs 5-1 win... Desjardins, who blanked Lake Erie and Toronto on Nov. 28 and Dec. 4, respectively, currently ranks second in the AHL in goals-against average (1.57) and third in save percentage (.940) through 13 appearances (7-4-1)..."

Van Guilder will be a great addition for us. We all know what he can do. He may be a bit rusty as he hasn't played much of late.

Interesting article on Desjardins:http://www.thespec.com/article/685004

quote:
Desjardins has been a winner everywhere he's played but has in the past been inconsistent enough with the Bulldogs to leave doubts about whether he could play at this level.

"He's much calmer," said Hamilton coach Guy Boucher. "That's a specific thing he's been working on with Montreal's goaltending coach (Pierre Groux).

"He's always been really good at stopping the second and third shots because he's a battler. The problem was that he was too anxious for the first shot."

Desjardins says he's working on staying calm and focused and just taking them one shot at a time.

If Ceddy keeps it up this year he will be the #1 goaltender next year and could possibly get a shot with the Habs if injuries mount, but he has to keep it up and prove to the Habs he can be the guy in the future. In my opinion he can be the guy the stats speak for themselves regardless of who they play doesnt matter all that matters is W's and how many goals did you allow and for Ceddy its only 1.5 or so thats IMPRESSIVE at ANY LEVEL

The future in Montreal is now with Carey Price. The Canadiens plan on him being their No. 1 goalie for the next 10-12 years.

What Montreal wants is someone they can rely on to play 18-25 games a season, someone that doesn't cost them a lot of money, and someone they know can play at the NHL level if they had to for an extended period in the event Price got hurt. For a game or two, you could get by with someone like Desjardins. For a month or two ... no NHL team would take that chance.

You wouldnt keep a player like Van Guilder on the bench peroid, and also he is a affiliate player now instead of a ECHL contract player so yes he will play and dominate.

dominate? all i saw was a player who was trying to do too much and it resulted in a lack luster performance. definitely not up to the level that we saw down the stretch last season and ultimately lead to his opportunity with milwaukee. after seeing him struggle with his game last night i'm not surprised that he has been in and out of the line up in milwaukee. mark has a ton of talent and he works hard, but even once he finds his game i doubt we'll see the kind of dominating effort we saw last year simply because the league is so much better as whole.

that being said i'm gald mark is here and i like what he potential brings to the line up, however, he may not be he too long; it's been reported that tootoo broke his foot and is out 4 to 6 weeks which means players will be getting recalled.

chuck's job is to win hockey games first, and develop players second, but more often than not those two go hand in hand because of the group of players he assembles. he is employed by the cyclones, not, montreal or nashville. he has stated he dresses the players that he feels give him the best chance to win, affiliated or not. granted, he does have to keep the affiliates happy so an affiliated player may get more of a chance to prove themselves versus a non affiliated player. van guiler and lacroix are in the line up because they bring more skill and potential to the line up when compared to morehouse or o'leary. the affiliated contract status is secondary. chuck has sat healthy affiliated players before, jimmy bonneau comes to mind, and at some point it will happen again.
