I honeslty think that since we dont have a game until Wednesday and Houston is in Grand Rapids tonight whatever the Aeros wanted Chuck gave it to them, and gave these players their shot in the A.

Didn't they need a mascot-we could have sent Twister along also.

Lets at least hope there will be some serious reciprocal back scratching at some later time.

I saw the Aeros play in Houston on Wednesday night. Needless to say they do have more than a few holes to fill. They are currently playing with Barry Brust (FL Everblades) in goal. JM Daoust is running the point on their power play. Ryan Gunderson (Wheeling, If I remember..) is their number three defenseman. They lost Colton Gillies for two games due to a suspension for a vicious hit in the third (They had to scrape up, then mop up the mess).

They do however have a mascot (he stole my friend's hat), cheerleaders and Texas BBQ in the building. They do need a few fans however. They had WAY less than 1000 in the building but called it 3163.

Thanks for the daily ray of sunshine Donnie. I would have thought that after five years the axe you keep grinding would have worn down to nothing, yet there seems to be a bit left.

You know as well as most people who read this board that the guys that get called up to the AHL are simply fill ins until the AHL team gets their guys back then they get sent back down. For the few guys that make it higher, (ie. Desharnais, Wyman, Stewart and soon Desjardins, see THN)at most they are just bit players on a huge (NHL) stage, yet we celebrate them (and you disparage them) because we saw them when. Are they going to stick in the NHL? Probably not, but that doesn't lessen their accomplishment. They made it, even if just for one night.

The ECHL isn't the AHL and never will be. Everyone on this board apparently knows that. The AHL is for prospects that should make it to the NHL while the ECHL is for prospects that possibly could make the NHL. This town has proven that it can't support AHL hockey, so we get ECHL hockey. Even you have to admit the support has increased over the last four years, albeit slowly but surely.

Donnie you have an incredible amount of hockey knowledge and at times its very educational to read your posts. Unfortunately your constant negativity is just too much to take. I will no longer read or comment on your posts which is sad because you could really bring something to the table.

I have no idea how either Sheahan or Pierce performed other than the stat sheet. Pierce may have been -2, but he had 3 shots (tied for 3rd highest on Houston). He may have gotten off rockets or they may have been dribblers. He may have made 10 great passes or given up the puck every other time he touched it. He may have made have had primary responsibility for both goals which occurred when he was on the ice or he may have just been getting on the ice replacing a laggard forward who was dogging it back to the bench.

I doubt anyone else who didn't watch/listen to it knows how he really played.

One thing that anyone who took two seconds to evaluate the situation would have known is that it was both Pierce and Sheahan's FOURTH game in FOUR days in THREE cities. That's a tall order for any hockey player regardless of age.

Pierce certainly isn't done with respect to call ups. He's a rookie who's already gotten multiple looks. He's a very solid player who skates fairly well, is a good passer and shooter, and has very good judgement on when to pass and when to shoot. The fact that dad was an NHLer won't hurt his cause one iota either. He was also called up to Milwaukee but didn't play-something not at all uncommon for Milw. to do.

Just because I don't have curtains with the Cyclones logo plastered all over it in each room of my house, a Cyclones bumper sticker on my car, and a Cyclones flag flying in my front yard doesn't mean I have an axe to grind. And why would I? It makes absolutely no difference whatsoever to me what league is here, and what building has hockey.

I remember when THN had players like Jay Legault, Byron Briske, Joel Stepp as top prospects for the Anaheim Ducks and none of them played an NHL game. I remember when THN listed Chris Armstrong as one of the top five prospects for the Florida Panthers. He played a handful of NHL games but 17 years later he's still playing in the AHL with Springfield. THN had Jason Podollan listed as the Panthers second-best prospect in 1997. He went on to play a total of 41 NHL games (scoring just one goal) with four different organizations. And, Cyclones fans probably remember Jeff Heerema and Nikos Tselios, both former first-round pick of the Hurricanes. Both were listed as the first and second-best prospects by THN, too. Heerema played 32 NHL games, Tselios two.

You'll see how excited the Canadiens are about Desjardins upside when they move Halek (or possibly Price in the right deal) at the trade deadline, and instead of calling up Sanford to be the backup and bumping Desjardins to No. 3 on the organizational depth chart, they acquire Martin Biron.

If I had a nickel for every time a Cyclones fans said that, I'd be able to pay for a limo to drive Desharnais from Montreal back to Hamilton again.

BTW ... in the Cyclones Rally for 3-2 Shootout win at Kalamazoo thread, below is what I said about Pierce:

Pierce won't score a lot of goals in the AHL, but he can be a third line, 10th or 11th forward for a number of teams in the league. He would score between 12-15 goals a year in the AHL. From the three games I've seen him play at USBA, I'd like to see him play with a bit more intensity, with more of an edge.

His father was a solid, two-way player. He put up decent numbers on bad Colorado teams before injuries curtailed him.

Mark Santorelli already has 10 goals for Milw. this season. Pierce is a much, much better offensive player. He has much higher potential than being the last forward on an AHL roster. Much higher.

So what you're saying is you're smarter than the 600-plus people employed by NHL teams to evaluate talent throughout North America and Europe, that you can see the upside in Pierce that none of the pro scouts around the NHL do.

Keep up the good work! The Calgary Flames will have openings from top to bottom in their hockey operations department if they miss the playoffs. They could use someone with an eye for discovering hidden gems like you.

Have you ever thought for yourself? Is everything a function of a scouting/drafting decision from years past? I guess so.

I'm sure that you rigorously compared the relative abilities of Pierce and Santorelli during their time here. LOL. And everyone knows how accurate lower round drafting is. LOL (again).

I still remember your projection of Matthieu Aubin as an NHL third or fourth liner. Based on draft status no doubt because anyone who saw him play knew he wasn't talented enough to make it at the AHL level.

Keep trying. You'll get better.

At least I have credibility with people that matter in the game; you might have some with a handful of people in the USBA smoking area.

I have credibility with my mother as well. Come to think of it, I may not have credibility with the smokers. They're a pretty rough crowd! LOL

New policy: Just as I won't respond to your and ht's silliness about Desharnais, I will now extend that to all topics.
