Has anyone other than me noticed what some people have found to complain about recently?

The Cyclones are two years removed from winning the championship, won the division and went to the conference finals a year ago, and are on the verge of at least winning their division (again) this year. They currently have the most wins in the entire league and are tied for second in points.

Yet we complain...

They have an ownership and coaching staff that almost every other team envy's. They obviously give Coach Weber the latitude to do what he must, and he does it. You ask him about his future, and he is brutally honest and tells you his goal is to move up too, but as long as he is in the ECHL there is no where he would rather be than Cincinnati. Ownership must be doing something to keep him happy.

Yet we complain...

Ever read what the Reds and Bengals fans have to say about their teams? They don't complain about what we do, they complain about two playoff trips in 20 years, and losing trips at that. They complain how major league baseball has separated the big market from small market teams, like the Reds who will never be able to compete. They complain about subsidizing over a half BILLION dollars to build stadiums to losers.

Yet we complain...

We complain because the $1.00 hotdog and pizza events aren't on the proper night. We complain because they offer $1.00 beers and never $1.00 pops. We complain because to many people attend the games who aren't there for the game and aren't "True fans." We complain because the team is "Boring." We complain because we don't like the bobbleheads. We complain about our affiliates, we complain when the team has an off night. And the list goes on...

Don't you think Reds and Bengals fans would LOVE to have OUR problems!

We as fans need to face it. The organization is doing what they need to do to keep this franchise going. They must know what they are doing, just look how the attendance numbers are consistently growing. And the last time I checked, ESPN and Fox Sports did not give the Cyclones a multi-million dollar TV or radio contract. It may be a bit of a surprise, but it takes revenue to run a team, and the primary way they are getting it is to put butts in the seats however they have to do it (yes some money comes from affiliates, not nearly all of it).

Most of us have been through this team folding once before, and I for one will fight tooth and nail to ever keep that from happening again. And we all know there are a few select individuals who post on here where there is nothing they would rather see more than that happening. But not the overwhelming majority of us.

No doubt I will catch some criticism from people for this post, but so be it. But if we (and I include me when I say we) are going to complain, make it valid.

Or our next complaints could be made to a hockey vacant arena.

...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones!

I agree people complain. It is not about us few hundred die hard fans. I have said it before the Cincinnati Cyclones are first and foremost a business. They are a team who happens to play hockey, but the bottom line is they are in it to make money. I don't care what night $1 hot dogs or beers are on. It is to draw the casual fan in, and get them to come back. We need thousands of casual fans so us die hards can enjoy our hockey team.

The Cyclones do a great job promoting themselves for what they are, which is a night of affordable family entertainment.

I don't disagree that the Cyclones have done a good job bringing in more people and growing their fanbase, but I think there are legitimate criticisms out there and room for improvement, even for a minor league hockey team that can use every fan it can get. That being said, the cyclones staff does a great job and seems to take great strides with each season to improve their promotions and marketing. There are complaints yes, but I think some of them from various people are legitimate and could help the franchise grow in the future.

I'm not gonna lie, there's another arena that I think is a better place to watch and enjoy a hockey game, I grew up on hockey there and love the environment regardless of the team, league and level of play. However, since moving back and living in Cincinnati regularly once again, I've gone to more clones games than ever before and am very happy to support this franchise and applaud after the games when they come out to salute the fans, which is just awesome.

And I think that's the angle they really need to work. Dollar beers and such are great and bring a lot of people in, but as their latest commercial shows, you gotta appeal to family's.

This year they have really done an amazing job in the marketing and ticket department they are going to increase attendance for the 3rd straight year, came up with some good promotions and kept it up all year. I have been really happy more with the weeknight attendance above all, one sub 1,000 night all because their wasnt a promotion. A lot of 2,000 or more weeknights is really good for this team and I am proud.

i don't post much, but here's a quick-and-dirty...

complaining comes naturally to cincinnati sports fans. it's been fed by years and years of mediocrity and disappointment, so we're good at it. ever listen to sports radio? nothing but whiners and know-it-alls. this week i heard people calling in to complain that not enough people were calling in to talk about xavier basketball. seriously.

cyclones fans broke away from their inner cincinnati-sports-fan because we got the winning team and the championship. then came another great season for cyclones fans to enjoy, and we're nearing the end of a third. cyclones fans don't have anything to complain about regarding the team, but the cincinnati-sports-fan in us is reminding us it's still there and is asking to be fed, so we want our own $1 drinks and a twister eating a cheese coney while riding the zamboni bobblehead and the guy in the row behind us to stop yelling for the flying-v.

listening to sports radio yesterday i heard the result of wednesday's dayton basketball game (they lost), and heard nothing about wednesday's cyclones game. if we have anything to complain about, it's the lack of media coverage given to the team. nobody knows how good this team is.

Complaining is part of our society, and nothing is perfect. You'll always see complaints about the things that aren't perfect.

But constructive feedback IS GOOD. Sure, it seems like the bitching over the $1 hot dogs on lent Friday is just whining, but its actually a VERY GOOD IDEA. I'm not a practicing catholic, so I sure didn't think about that.
But that idea (or bitching, whatever you want to call it) could spawn another one. Like Fish Fry specials during the Friday lent games. Thats actually a GREAT idea.

as long as the suggestions remain constructive and aren't just whining, its a good thing.

Yes, I grew up playing hockey... In Alabama.

I really hope it doesn't seem like I was bitching when I made that topic last week, that certainly wasn't my intention. I was more complaining that they were missing out on an opportunity to bring people in rather than the fact that it was hot dog night.
