ELMIRA, New York - Cincinnati Cyclones forward Ryan Del Monte scored 4:09 into overtime to give the club a 4-3 win over the Elmira Jackals on Saturday night. Barret Ehgoetz had a goal and an assist to pace the offense, while Jimmy Kilpatrick and Brian O'Hanley each had a pair of assists for the winner. Cincinnati scored a pair of power play goals and added a shorthanded marker--for three special teams scores in the win.

There was no scoring in the first period, but Cincinnati had two power play opportunities that went unconverted. The shots on goals leaned the way of the Cyclones, 8-7.

The Cyclones opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 7:10 of the second period. Ian McKenzie came out of the penalty box as a five-on-three power play expired for Elmira. McKenzie took a pass from Barret Ehgoetz and slipped a puck past Jackals goalie Andy Chiodo on the breakaway for his third goal of the season. It was the ECHL-leading 40th time this season that Cincinnati has scored the first goal of the game. It was also a Cyclones record 15th shorthanded goal of the campaign. Elmira would answer 21 seconds later on the same power play, as Wes Cunningham netted his sixth goal of the year, as R.J. Anderson had the helper.

Cincinnati would regain the lead when Maxime Lacroix collected a pass in the slot off a faceoff and ripped a shot just inside the left post. The man-advantage score was assisted by Jimmy Kilpatrick and Mark Van Guilder at 14:57. Elmira would get another power play goal to knot the game at two each. Tyler Donati's 34th score of the season came from Justin Donati and former Cyclone Thomas Beauregard. The Jackals had six power play chances in the period, but the Cyclones won the shots battle, 21-13. The 21 shots tied the team's season-high set in the first period against Johnstown on January 25.

In the third, Ehgoetz collected his 23rd marker of the seasonas Kilpatrick and O'Hanley handed out the assists at 5:49. That gave Cincinnati its third lead of the night. Elmira would respond at 11:11 when Tyler Donati notched his second of the night and 35th of the campaign. That score set a club record for goals in a season. The shots in the third period favored Cincinnati, 10-8.

In the overtime, Cyclones defenseman Brock Sheahan charged the net working the right wing side and was hauled down at 2:09. Wes Cunningham was whistled off for the tripping infraction that led to Ryan Del Monte's heroics. Del Monte battled at the front of the net and tipped in a pass from Brett Robinson out of the left corner. O'Hanley had the second assist on the score. The Cyclones recorded all five shots of the overtime and held the edge for the game at 44-28.

Robert Mayer collected the win for Cincinnati, his 18th of the yearstopping 25 shots. Andy Chiodo absorbed the lossdespite turning away 4-0 shots. The Cyclones went two-for-seven on the power play, while Elmira went two-for-six with the extra attacker.

Cincinnati is 39-21-3, while Elmira is 33-21-6. The contest was the final contest of a six game road. The Cyclones will return to U.S. Bank Arena on Thursday, March 18 for a 7:30pm showdown against the Johnstown Chiefs. The club is also at U.S. Bank Arena next Saturday (March 20), when Toledo is in at 7:30pm on a 'Kids Eat Free' promotion.

The Cyclones have a 'magic number' of three to clinching a Kelly Cup playoffs berth. Any standings points gained by Cincinnati or lost by Gwinnett reduces the number. A Gwinnett loss at Charlotte tomorrow would open the door for Cincinnati to clinch the playoff berth with a win Thursday against Johnstown.

Cincinnati leads the North Division with 81 points. Kalamazoo is second with 78, while Toledo is third at 68 and Wheeling rounds out the division with 64 points. The Cyclones have led the North Division for 66 days this season and for 327 days over the past three-plus seasons.

Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. Selected Friday night games are carried on 1530-AM Homer, while all 72 regular season games can be heard on the club's website at: www.cycloneshockey.com. The next game on ESPN 1530 will come Friday, March 19, when the Cyclones travel to Toledo at 7pm.

Lots of penalties, lots of shots, 3 fighting majors, OT, and a coach with a game misconduct.

Sounds like an entertaining night in lovely Elmira. ;)
