Nice reply Goalie Judge. It is a GAME.
Love that when ever we lose it is always due to the ref and the "goons" on the other side. I hear fans screaming at the refs as they leave the ice between periods etc. Would be nice if some of them had played the game and knew the rules and how they were called. Didn't know about these actions after the game with players. They are insulting to the players and all the true fans of hockey and the team who go to be entertained and watch the greatest game on earth and not to wait for a fight to break out. I thought last night's game was well refereed and as he conferred with the two linesmen who were right there after Benson's goal to see what happened, I have to believe the penalty was deserved. Our coaches didn't put up a protest either when it was called. |

All in all I would agree, however, the first period was a joke as far as the officiating went. The key is for the ref to call it equally, which wasn't really happening. Just before Del Monte took his penalty (no complaints on that one, he got his moneys worth) O'Hanely was cross-checked into the end boards from behind as he went to play a dump in around the boards. The puck was still about 10 feet from him when it happened and the ref was looking right at the play. Binda had is choice of calling interference, cross-checking, roughing or even boarding but he called nothing. Another example, is the goal tender intereference penalty on Benson. That call was incredibly questionable given that the contact was inititiated outside of the crease by Munce and given the conduct of Charlotte's players crashin Smith.
And there was protest put up by Chuck. Binda refused to skate to the Cyclones bench immediately after the incident or after the period was over. In 4 season with Weber, I don't think I've ever seen Chuck wait on the bench at the end of a period to have a word with an official. When Binda just skated off the ice Chuck appeared to be rather steamed. |
