Cyclones Contribute More Than $200,000 To Local Community
Cincinnati Hockey Team Supplies Goods, Merchandise and Time To Area Charities
CINCINNATI, Ohio The Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL announced this morning that they contributed more than $200,000 in goods and materials to the Cincinnati community during 2009-10. The Cyclones have surpassed $400,000 in support within the community since returning to the ice four years ago. Over 800 individuals and/or agencies in the area were bestowed these gifts from the team. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHLs Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.
Being Cincinnatians we want to give back to the community that supports us, Kristin Ropp, Vice President/General Manager of the Cyclones and U.S. Bank Arena said. There are so many great organizations and causes assisting people in the greater Cincinnati area, we want to do all we can year round.
More than 80 memorabilia pieces were issued on behalf of the team, as well over 300 club signed items for fund-raising efforts. In addition to these contributions, the players on the squad spent nearly 600 hours to assist with appearances to hospitals, schools, youth centers and other locations throughout the season.
The team also collected more than 850 stuffed animals during the annual Teddy Bear Toss with the toys going to Shriners Hospital. The players also teamed with the Cyclones Fan Club for the annual Cyclones Got Talent dinner that generated more than $6000 for Hockey Players For Kids, which was started by forward Dustin Sproat, to work with kids in this community and others around North America. The club also auctioned off four sets of jerseys for various charities that raised more than $38,000.
The organization also worked with the wives and girlfriends of the players during the Christmas season, as they sold decorations to generate funds for Bethany House. Various charities in the region benefitted from selling concessions at U.S. Bank Arena as well.
The Cincinnati community has been great to us during the hockey season, Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. Being able to repay that by helping causes that assist people in need is something we take pride in.
The Cyclones are currently in the American Conference Finals for the third consecutive season. The fourth game of the USA Collision Centers postseason occurs on Saturday night (May 8) at Reading at 7pm. That contest will be carried on ESPN 1530. If game five is needed it would be played in Reading on Sunday (May 9) at 7:05pm, also on ESPN 1530. The teams would return to Cincinnati if a sixth game is needed on Tuesday, May 11 at U.S. Bank Arena at 7:30pm. The Big Beer Tuesday promotion continues for that contest with two dollar 24 ounce Molson, Molson Ice and Labatts products. Should the series go the full seven games, the decisive game would be in Cincinnati on Wednesday, May 12 at 7:30pm. That would be a Wet Wednesday promotion with one dollar Miller High Life and Pabst Blue Ribbon beers.
