The Cyclones really caught a break with the scheduling of the home games. No Reds games to compete with at all! On 5/18 the Reds play a 12:35 PM game at home and then they leave town just in time for games 4 and 5 on Thursday and Friday.

Great game, lots of energy. I usually don't complain about the officiating but there were some questionable calls tonight. The diving penalty on Sproat seemed a little fishy as it appeared to me that he was hit in the face pretty good. Also at one point one of the Reading players gave a two handed shove to the face of one of the Cyclones right in front of the ref and no call. I didn't get a good view of the penalty on Ortiz but from the reaction of the crowd it sounded questionable.

Mayer was out of his mind.

Seriously how can a ref make a call against the Reading player, then send Sproat to the box for diving, isn't it one or the other?

The NHL has screwed up the diving call from the beginning as well. More often than not, both players get sent to the box.

Thats just stupid. I realize they are viewing it as "embellishment" but screw that. Keep it simple, if there is a hook/hold/crosscheck called then it WASN'T a DIVE!!!

Nothing negative to this particular ref. Its been going on in all the leagues for about 10 years.

Yes, I grew up playing hockey... In Alabama.

I never get how you can get high sticked and get called for diving. It happened on the opposite side of the ice from my seats, but it appeared he simply fell from the stick to the mug

What I saw on the "dive" might just have been overacting by Sproat.
Games 6 and 7 were handled by the refs with one thing in mind-no game
5 happening again. The dive penalty in game 6 let Reading know this
wasn't going to be tolerated. The same last night. Yes some calls
were missed, but the game was always in control and that was to our
advantage. Hats off to Benson for staying under control. We need you
on the ice-not in the penalty box.

The funny thing is during the game, I didn't think Sproat did any embelishment from the high stick call. Sitting on the visiting Goal end near the arena garage it was hard to see the entire event take place but initially I felt both guys were being sent off for some type of rough play including the high stick therefore sending a message, but once I found out it was diving. Wildman had a problem announcing it, maybe from the shock of the call. I saw Sproats initial reaction, felt that throughout this entire series that high stick calls have been habitually missed and without some type of deleberate reaction it gets totally missed. Hockey in general, all leagues, the high stick call is uausally made based on the reaction to the stick in the face instead of the actual lack of stick control.

Thankfully to this point we have yet to see the traumatic drama associated with "soccer diving" where soccer players act as though they had an appendage kicked off....sorry soccer fans

Wow what an emotional ride these playoffs have been! After Game 3 it was like o no the season's over we're gonna get swept and then all of a sudden we win 4 in a row- thats just unbelievable. This team is unbelievable to have gone the distance in all 3 rounds and win them all. i think we will win the Cup most likely in a 6 or 7 game series.
