SPROAT TO LEAVE THE GMB PANTHERS
Forward Dustin Sproat has asked to be released from his contract so he can return to North America.
Talks are underway to finalise the details and a search for a replacement has also begun.
Dustin may have a chance to go to Harvard University to further his business studies and he also wants to return home so he can boost his hockey based kids charity in North America with a more hands on involvement. He also has a shot at playing in the AHL.
He told us: I really do love the city of Nottingham. The fans, the Panthers organisation, and my team mates have all been great to me during my time in England, and the decision to leave such an awesome hockey city has not been easy. I wish the Panthers all the best and will be following their fortunes closely from back home.
Coach Corey Neilson has been checking out his options for the past 24 hours or so and already has a number of candidates lined up. Meanwhile with the club already carrying a spare foreign player he shouldnt be short-staffed.
A club spokeswoman said today: Everyone at the club likes Dustin and he did a great job for us, but having said that, we wouldnt stand in anyones way and we wish him well.
Meanwhile, the club will move forward. One door closes and another opens, the coach has heard of a string of quality players who are available and hes checking them out immediately. We already have extra staff compared to other teams so theres no need to rush into anything but the right decision for the club will be taken as soon as possible.
