Just goes to show if the team puts a good product on the field linked
with good promotons, fans will come. I still worry that two big days
involving discounted prices gave us the needed push. I still wish the
prices were still at $10 or $11 dollars.

Thats probably a very skewed number at this point. Half the games in the data set were opening night, education in hockey, and throwback night. The other three games were probably a much lower average, and closer to what we'll see for the entire season.

But gate money is gate money, and so far thats pretty decent gate money.

Of note for me (since I used to live in that area) is Gwinnett's attendance. If those aren't skewed numbers that is much better than I ever thought that team would do in it's suburban Atlanta location. I've been to Thrashers games with less than 6000 people in the building.

It was discussed often when Dayton was in the league, but many teams skew their attendance big time. A lot of them count tickets out, including promo tickets given to sponsors, etc. It makes the team look better to the sponsors. Once the playoffs roll around and the League starts taking a cut of the door, those teams get honest and the attendance drops quite a bit even though the arena appears to have the same number of people as during the regular season.

A friend of mine in Atlanta says the Gladiators are actually doing very well attendance-wise, and often outdraw the Thrashers.

Could be a function of the economy and fans simply taking the cheaper option. Or the fans on the north side of town avoiding the traffic and headache of going downtown. The two arenas are about 30 minutes apart without traffic and about 6 hours apart with traffic.

I totally agree about opening night, throwback and edu-in-hockey games, but with any luck the Cyclones will once again lead the ECHL in % increase in attenadnce at the end of the year, just like the last several years!

"Throwback" was down 2700 from last season and "Education" was down 1400. However, 8200 and 7500 are outstanding crowds at this level for any team for any promotion.

Opening night was up 1000 over last season's.

With the extra 4 weekend games relative to last season (21 vs.17) and a much more aggressive December promotional strategy (Santa bobbleheads, Championship flags, etc), I look for the upward trend in attendance to continue despite the $1 ticket price rise and concession price increases.

The Cyclones are a very rare commodity in minor league hockey today. They continue to grow their fan base despite raising prices and the announced attendance figures aren't absurdly concocted fictions.

It's not that difficult to grow your attendance 20-30% when you're up against small numbers from the previous year.

It also helps when you have most of the games on Fridays and Saturdays, I think out of 36 home games, 22 I think are on a Friday or Saturday.

08, 10 Kelly Cup Champions
08, 10, 14 American Conference Champions
08, 09, 13 North Division Champions
08 Brabham Cup Champions

Agreed.

It hurts when beer is $1 and you still only have 1700 people in the building. The Tuesday games are killers.

Then why haven't the other teams been able to do it for these three years especially when no other team except Gwinnett ( 30 miles vs next door) has to compete with the NFL and MLB for entertainment dollars.

Nobody started with 1,700 a game like the Cyclones did when they returned in 2006-07, dbc.
