CINCINNATI, Ohio - Mathieu Aubin buried a pair of goals while rookie netminder Brian Foster turned aside 25 shots to lift his Cincinnati Cyclones (22-20-6-3) to a 5-1 win over the Toledo Walleye (23-22-3-1) in front of 4,198 at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday night.

For just the third time this season, Cincinnati jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Just 2:31 into the opening frame, Eric Kattelus' (CAT-ell-us) turn-around shot deflected over Toledo netminder Joe Palmer (L, 33, 9-11-1) and into the net for a 1-0 Cyclones lead. Then, at the 11:11 mark, a Mathieu Aubin wrist shot found the twine for a power play tally and a 2-0 advantage. Just over six minutes later, at 17:22, Aubin struck again as he slid home his second of the night after catching a beautiful Kattelus pass to extend their lead to 3-0 heading into the first intermission.

Not even four minutes into the middle stanza, Paul McIlveen stashed his seventh goal of the year to widen their lead to 4-0. On the other end of the ice, Cyclones rookie netminder Brian Foster (W, 25 saves, 1-0-0) continued to play extremely well in his ECHL debut, turning aside several great Toledo chances to keep the visitors off the scoreboard through 40 minutes.

In third period, Chase Watson banked a shot off Palmer's backside from behind the Toledo net to pick up his second goal of the season and give the Cyclones a 5-0 cushion. Unfortunately, Walleye forward Willie Coetzee wristed a shot past Foster with just 4:15 left in regulation to spoil a shutout bid. However, that didn't tarnish a tremendous debut for the Cyclones rookie netminder; he made 25 saves to earn his first ECHL win.

The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows:
1. Mathieu Aubin (2 goals for Cincinnati)
2. Brian Foster (25 saves for Cincinnati, winning goaltender)
3. Eric Kattelus (1 goal, 1 assist for Cincinnati)

What a fun game tonight. We pounded them, but it was still a fun game! I was wanting Foster to get the shut out so bad!

Brian Foster's job interview went well. In the tradition of Johan "Moose" Hedberg we are affectionately calling Foster "Mudbug."

We pounded them early with a ton of energy and physicality, and to be honest it looked like Toledo just threw in the towel and wanted to go home.
Whatever. We'll take it.

We haven't been able to make many games this year with the kids activities but this was by far the best performance we have seen. The passes seemed crisp and they kept the pressure in the Toledo zone most of the night. Regardless of whether Toledo played well or not I was impressed tonight. On a side note, my son skated during the first intermission with the NKYHA and had a wonderful time. I would like to say a special thank you to Dustin Sproat for coming into the locker room after the kids came off the ice and walking around to speak to each of them. It was a very nice thing for him to do and was first class all the way. Go Cyclones!!!

If Sproat will stay around, we need to keep him. Not just because he consistently performs but because he's a helluva good guy.
