The New York Islanders are receiving calls from several teams interested in acquiring former Cincinnati Mighty Ducks center Zenon Konopka.
While Konopka won't provide much offensively, he's a good energy guy, a solid checking line center, faceoff specialist, tremendous locker-room presence, and an enforcer.
Konopka will be an unrestricted free agent and the Islanders want him back, but they can trade him for a draft pick or minor league prospect and then re-sign him this summer. |

| Zenon Konopka has only 7 goals at the NHL level, despite playing in 113 games, and frankly won't help many playoff teams with anything except a guy to warm up the press box. |

| Zenon would be great on a team that has alot of skill players (ie weak players who cant defend themselves). He can kill penalties and defensive zone faceoffs. Hopefully he can get out of long island |

I remember him as an extremely hard-working player who would do anything he could to help the Ducks win.
While he adds next to nothing offensively, he's the type of grinder/energy player who could be of value to a playoff team which might lack or wish to add more grit.
Along with Chistov and O'Brien, he was my favorite Duck player to watch play. He left it all on the ice and at the AHL level had a fair amount of impact on the score sheet.
Konopka is the type of player Montreal was hoping for when they promoted former Cyclone Greg Stewart a few years back. Stewart wasn't up to the task, but he's young and hopefully will earn himself another chance at some point. |

Chistov and O'Brien were fun to watch play if you were a fan. Not so much if you were a coach.
You won't find a better team guy than Konopka. He'll do anything to help his team on and off the ice. |
