CINCINNATI, Ohio - Mathieu Aubin earned his 11th multi-point game of the season as he helped lift the Cincinnati Cyclones (25-22-6-3) to a 3-2 win over the Reading Royals (35-16-2-3) in front of 3,033 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night.
The Cyclones showed some tremendous passing precision in the opening period, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. At the 5:22 mark, Barret Ehgoetz finished off a beautiful exchange with Samson Mahbod to open the scoring. Then, with less than 90 seconds left in the period, Mathieu Aubin patiently passed the puck to Dustin Sproat who buried his 17th goal of the season past Royals netminder Michael Hutchinson (L, 41 saves, 9-5-1-3).
In the middle frame, the Royals answered back with a pair of goals of their own. The first Reading tally came at the 6:55 mark when, during a power play, Chris Blight tapped home a loose puck past Cyclones goaltender Brian Foster (W, 26 saves, 3-1-0), cutting the lead in half. Then, at 16:59, Olivier Labelle picked up a turnover in the Cincinnati zone and wristed in his 13th goal to knot the score at two through 40 minutes.
The final frame of regulation was a nail-biter to say the least as both teams fiercely attempted to tie the game. Luckily, with just under four minutes to go in regulation, Aubin camped out in front of the Royals net and tipped home his team-leading 18th tally of the year to put Cincinnati up by a 3-2 count. Despite some great Royals scoring chances late in the game, the Cyclones defense stood tall and held on to win by the same score.
The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows: 1. Mathieu Aubin (Game-winning goal, assist for Cincinnati) 2. Dustin Sproat (Goal for Cincinnati) 3. Olivier Labelle (Goal for Reading)

We now consistently take damned near twice as many shots per game than we did for the first half of the season.
Is it the new personnel or a change in coaching philosophy? I dunno, but for the most part the results are better.
You always miss the shots you don't take.

We've beaten the two top teams in the Conference without our best roster. If we get hot (assuming we get in!!!), we could make some noise in the playoffs given that there is no team that we can't handle-including Kzoo.
The line of Sproat, Ehgoetz and Mahbod was awesome. The pairing of CPZ, Aubin and Eves wasn't too bad either.
How about those first two goals!!!!!!! Two gorgeous passing sequences which we usually don't get in a month let alone in one game.
Great win and fantastic weekday crowd.
Crossing my fingers for at least a 4 point weekend vs. all three divisional foes. |

This is the time of the year you need your veterans to step up and our goal scorers were Ehgoetz, Sprout, and Aubin. Playoff type goaltending from both sides as none of the five goals could be blamed on them. Foster kept us in the game in the 2nd period. Love the way he moves aggressively and challenges shooters.
In the continuing saga of "A Tale of Two Seasons", Wheeling has now just one point in the last ten games after having 18 points in the previous ten games. Hate to pile on but lets hope these trends continue Friday night |

| Beating teams outside our division has not been the big problem. We can't beat Wheeling, K-Zoo or fair much better against Toledo. |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

Don't get too excited. We've had multiple instances of beating top teams and then falling on our faces in the next game ALL SEASON LONG.
I obviously hope we beat Wheeling, but if they blow us out (again) I won't be surprised at all. That's about par for the season so far.
