WHEELING, West Virginia - A pair of third period goals by the Wheeling Nailers (30-25-0-3) broke a scoreless tie and turned out to be just enough to sneak past the Cincinnati Cyclones (25-23-6-3) by a 2-1 score at WesBanco Arena on Friday night. With the victory, the Nailers also took the 2010-11 season series against the Cyclones eight games to three.
Both teams traded six shots in the opening period but neither was able to dent the scoreboard. In fact, the first 40 minutes went without a goal as both goaltenders stayed very busy. Cincinnati netminder Brian Foster (L, 21 saves, 3-2-1) turned aside 15 shots in the first two frames while Peter Delmas (W, 18 saves, 9-4-0) stopped all 14 he faced heading into the second intermission.
Unfortunately, early in the third period, the Nailers jumped out to a lead when Doug Rogers sent home a bouncing puck past Foster not even five minutes in. Then, at the 9:55 mark, Joey Haddad took a loose puck from in the face-off circle and dangled past the Cincinnati goalie to extend Wheelings cushion to a pair. The Cyclones finally found some offense during a four-on-four situation when Samson Mahbod slammed home his eight goal of the season from just inside the Wheeling blue line at the 17:33 mark, pulling his team within a goal in the final minutes. However, despite an empty net for the Cyclones and a couple close calls, the Nailers held on to win by a 2-1 score.
The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows: 1. Joey Haddad (Game-winning goal for Wheeling) 2. Peter Delmas (Winning goalie, 18 saves) 3. Brian Foster (21 saves for Cincinnati)

| Sad! Very sad. Gonna be hard to make the playoffs if we can't beat the teams we're supposed to beat. A team that is in as bad shape as Wheeling is a must win for a hungry team. |

Offense looked anemic last night. Something like 20 or so shots on goal.
Maybe we should have started throwing punches with Delmas a little earlier? Someone needed to energize this club - too bad it didn't happen until the last 4 minutes of the game. |

Looks to me from the score sheet like both Hudson (instigator in last 5 minutes) and Sprout (Continuing altercation) will be automatically suspended although Sprout's may not be an automatic.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

| Kind of a lame instigator. Delmas didn't exactly look like he wasn't interested in dancing. Hudson might have had the gloves off first but Delmas certainly wasn't far behind. I guess when you fight the goalie (big "Code" no no) that's what happens. Too bad it didn't happen at 14:59. |

Am I missing why Hudson went with the goalie? Did Delmas do something to earn that or was it pure stir crap up goonery by Hudson?

Without being there, only can guess what started this with Delmas. All season we are seeing bolder and bolder goalies knowing that physical contact ANYWHERE will draw a goalie interference call 70% of the time. I have always thought a simple rule should happen with goalies. Any physical penalty that a goalie draws should result in a penalty shot instead of someone else serving their penalty. Also, a goalie should only be protected in the blue in front of the net and the zone behind the net. Outside of those areas ONLY a hit deserving a roughing call should be called. Same goes refs need to clamp down on goalie's slashing and tripping in front of the net. If a player is standing in the blue, goalies have the right to contact. Outside - live with it ! |
