I fear one major thing with this talk. One of the main reasons I heard we moved to USBA ( and I expect I will be told I am wrong) is the threat of a higher league looking at moving their. What resulted is the Garden's then going out and buying an AHL franchise thus creating the war. What is going to stop the Garden's itch from having hockey and finding a money man to front a new AHL effort. Now we could be right back in the tank. If tickets go to $15 a game- goodbye season tickets and hello 5 or less games a month. |

| Bags, I doubt it. Everything I hear is that the Gardens will not bring a new hockey team in as long as there is another team in Cincinnati. |

| I dont know if any of you guys have been to the Gardens recently but its barely holding on to supporting mens league and high school hockey. Its sadly becoming run down so it would take a lot to get it AHL ready again in my opinion. |
old time hockey bar the door, clear the track, ITS ALL OUT WAR! |

I don't think that was the main reason. You gotta remember that Kirchoffer owned the clones at the time and also purchased The Crown aka The Firstar Center. He probably saw a bigger opportunity to make more money by having "viable" teams (IHL clones, Stuff, Silverbacks) and getting revenue from concerts and events. There was a lot of speculation too that the Reds were going to purchase the property for building the new ballpark. Kirchoffer put a lot of money into renovating it and it would've cost the Reds quite a bit, so they wedged their stadium in right next door.
I don't think you'll see the Gardens put an AHL team in anytime soon. They had planned to when the Ducks left, couldn't get an affiliation agreement and then the ECHL clones returned and it's been like that ever since.
As for AHL at USBA, I'd like to see it, but if that were to happen it would depend on who owns the team and what the lease agreement is like. |

Thanks Gordon for the info. I know Kirchoffer was having a hard time with the Garden's owners doing ANY kind of upkeep on the building and that also helped Xavier to move out and get their own arena. If the Gardens could have just invested some money into the building, we never would have moved and we could have also became an AHL team when the AHL added the IHL teams. |

| The AHL would be nice to have here in Cincinnati, but I don't think the price per ticket will draw a crowd. A lot of people go for the "show" not the hockey game. |

So, you can't have a "show" at AHL games? Can't do $1 hotdogs, $1 pizza, $1 beers if the AHL returned to Cincinnati?
An AHL team can be promoted the same way the ECHL is now, as a night of entertainment. |

I am afraid the price of a ticket might distract a lot of people no matter what. Even if there was a "show." |

I'll say it again.
If we can get an AHL team in here with similar to current ticket prices (say $15 MAX)... Go for it!!!
At $20+ the team would be tits up in 3 to 4 seasons, which is what I think would happen.
Let's learn from the past and just stick with what is working. M'kay.

Something else to consider with an AHL team is the possibility that when the affiliation agreement with the NHL parent club ends, the NHL team elects to sign a deal elsewhere and there being no other NHL affiliation options available to replace them with, therefore forcing the AHL franchise to suspend operations. That scenario can (and has) happened in the AHL.

| I'm happy with what we have, BUT, count me as one of the hockey diehards that would happily pay to see AHL talent every night. |

I am all for it as long as the current ownership group would be the one bringing the AHL team here. I don't think they would raise the ticket prices more than a couple dollars. As Donnie pointed out, there are no other hands in the pie under the current ownership, therefore tickets prices can be kept low. I'm not totally sure, but I think $13 is cheap even for the ECHL. Most AHL teams have a few different ticket prices depending on location of the seats. Milwaukee offers a family plan for $44(4 tickets,4 drinks,4 hot dogs). That's actually cheaper than the current Cyclones family four pack deal, minus the shirts.
The AHL has 30 teams,so we wouldn't be seeing the same 3-4 teams 8 times a year at home. Watching a player in the minors one week and then the NHL the next is also a plus.
My only concern would be the NHL affiliate. |
