On December 3, 1998, the Cyclones traded captain Don Biggs to the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for Fred Knipscheer.

Yep, and in my opinion it was because Ron Smith didn't like Biggs or Sargeant. It certainly wasn't done to help the club, because Knipscheer didn't.

It was done for financial reasons. Period.

I think that probably figures in too, but what I've heard points to some serious personality conflicts between the two and Ron Smith and that, that figured in too.

You can say you heard this or that, but the reality is the trade was made for financial reasons. They were struggling to make payroll. That was well known in pro hockey circles.

Knipscheer gave the Cyclones something they didn't have a lot of, which was speed. He was a good defensive forward and penalty killer. The trade, while unpopular with fans, made the team better.

There was some rumblings after the 1998-99 season about bringing Biggs to the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. I thought the problem with adding Biggs was that there wasn't enough roster space. Cincinnati had two parent clubs (Ducks and Wings) for the 1999-00 season.

Rumblings were relegated to media talk. Both Anaheim and Detroit had no interest in signing Biggs.
