Wikipedia definition: Someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

I find it interesting how people on this board have decided that anytime something is said that they don't agree with, it's trolling. Thanks to hrc's incorrect usage of the word, by introducing the word to the board to describe those people who have opinions of which he doesn't agree or approve, everyone else who uses this word is also using it incorrectly.

If I go to a thread entitled "David Desharnais", and post my opinion that he will not play regularly in the NHL, this is not trolling, this is simply stating an opinion. However, when hrc calls me Schlockey Babbler, a loser, or a clown, THAT is inflammatory, and off-topic, and has a primary intent of provoking an emotional response and disrupting a normal on-topic discussion.

I was accused of trolling by cyclonehole on the Bill Cunningham thread, simply because I stated that TRUE Cyclones fans who have an interest in the Cyclones' financial welfare will not be disappointed with the crowd on Bill Cunningham bobblehead night. Again this is not trolling, simply an opinion, which I am fairly sure will be true. Cyclonehole misinterpreted the statement. Misinterpretation is not related to the definition of trolling. If I would have directly accused cyclonehole of not being a true Cyclones fan, then yes, it would be inflammatory. However, this wasn't the case.

Facts are also not included in the definition. When I posted that the Cyclones drew 1414 people at their 14th win to put them 14th in the league in attendance, it wasn't inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic. It was simply a fact, and fun with numbers, since Wildman always says "there's that number again" whenever the number 14 is mentioned. However, when later in that thread, hrc starts talking about Hecklers Grove and his negative opinions of me and others on this board, that is inflammatory, off-topic, and intended to provoke emotional responses and disrupt the normal on-topic discussion.

So now, who is a troll, and who isn't?

The answer is *play muzak*

The chlocky babbler

Do I win a prize?

A troll is someone whose primary purpose is to disrupt a board.

If the hockey travelliarhad any degree of honesty and integrity, then he would admit that his purpose on this board is to disrupt. But, he obviously lacks these qualities. Hence this stupid post of his.

"The only way David Desharnais will see an NHL game is if he buys a ticket".
--donnie hockey

"David Desharnais will be invisible during 5 on 5 hockey. IN THE AHL"
--donnie hockey

Just an observation: It takes a sucker to take the bait required to make a "troll" work...so stop taking the bait already...

just because i like a good debate:

based on the following definitions:

troll: Wikipedia definition: Someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

inflammatory: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Inflammatory may refer to

* Inflammation
* The word inflammatory is not used to refer literally to fire and flammability, but is used in relation to comments that are provocative and arouse passions and emotions.

dictionary.com defines "inflammatory" as tending to arouse anger, hostility, passion, etc.

using these definitions combined with what i stated in another thread regarding the primary reason this message board exists; which is to support the cincinnati cyclones:

Who/What is Section 60? Section 60 (also referred to as The CycWard), all started back in 1990 with the newly formed ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones hockey team. At that time, the Cyclones home was the Cincinnati Gardens. A group of hockey fans sitting in "Section 60" (at the home-ice end) began supporting the team by yelling out various "cheers" and performing various "antics".

Today, the Cyclones play at the USBank Arena downtown, and you still find "The CycWard - Section 60" still located behind the home-ice goal (in Section 140).

it is possible to come to the conclusion that hockey traveller is a troll. if this website is to promote the support of the cincinnati cyclones and david desharnais is a former cyclones player which most fans of the team wish to see succeed, potentially as far as the nhl, then posting messages, even of opinion, that are contrary to this sentiment would be indeed be provocative and arouse passion and emotion; specifically anger and hostility. Therefore, by your own definition, you are a troll hockey traveller.

one could argue that since only a handful out of many on this message board respond to you posts that your remarks do not insight that type of passion. however, i would counter that argument by stating that, generally speaking, the american public is apathetic in regards to confrontations, especially when the confrontation is about something like minor league hockey and there are much bigger things to worry about and often times remain quiet if some one has already stated a like response to their own. This could even go further to enhance you're argument, but i would venture that a general poll of those that are active on this message board find your overall negativity towards the cyclones and their players, past and present, to be quite annoying and allow a few to be vocal for the whole rather than getting into it. or, as fangers pointed out, maybe they do not engage you in the hopes you'll just go away.

going further, what is trolling activity is different on different boards. for example, since this message board is for the support of the cyclones, your posts here, based on my brief, are indeed trolling. if you posted the same thing on a message board such as hfboards or intotheboards, it would not be considered trolling, as those are general hockey discussion boards and do not directly lend themselves to the sole support of one team and it's players as this message board does. so perhaps you should engage those message boards with you opinions and discuss them there.

as for hrc's activities, they could be deemed as trolling, if you could find others who agreed that his name calling arouses passion and emotion, specifically hostility and anger. while my opinions about the cyclones are more similar to his than yours, i find his name calling to be quite juvenile. if you recall, i once made the mistake of not paying enough attention to whom posted what and called you "donnie hockey" when you mocked me for my mistake, i promptly apologized for my mistake.

personally, i could do with out your anti cyclones opinions on this message board and i could do without hrc's juvenile name calling. i welcome general hockey discussion when placed in the proper sections of this message board. i don't even mind posting about former mighty ducks' players, but the posters of those topics shouldn't be surprised of "who cares" or negative attitudes towards those posts.

In my humble defense, I would like to point out that my name calling has been entirely directed toward the anti-Cyclones trolls including those who post ridiculous and unsubstantiated about hockey coming back to the Gardens. The only exception to this is when I was personally attacked.

I've been round and round with this crew. Showing them decency and/or ignoring simply doesn't work. Been there, done that. One of them has played a big role in destroying another message board (two boards if you count their own dead one-Hackers Grovel), so if one thinks that they'll just go away, then I believe that's mistaken.

As for "juvenile". Hmmmm. I guess I'm a kid at heart. At the very least I post using capitals and proper punctuation. Na na na na na.j/k.

Until ordered to do so by the "boss" here, my posts toward these s, losers and trolls shall be littered with personal invective and funny board icons

Another thought. Perhaps I'm just calling our trolls what others would like to call them. So, Elvis, just think of me as a role player.

I want to chime in with my views on this topic. The main purpose of this website is to support the Cyclones by giving another avenue for Hockey Fans to get up-to-date News and Information about the Team. I also provide a forum for you, the Fans, to discuss Hockey, be it Cyclones, other ECHL teams, AHL, NHL, etc... I believe EVERYONE should be able to express their opinions on topics (BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE). Yes, emotions do seem to at times escalate and I need to step in and close a thread or warn some people about specific conduct. I understand that not ALL people are going to get along with EVERYONE. I just wish at times, everyone would learn to (before they post/respond) stop, think about what they're about to say. I see a lot of times, people are quick to respond, and are just "fueling the flames". There have been things I've read that I don't agree with or like.. I just say, "That's his/her opinion, I don't agree with it" and I move on. It's fine to respond, but at some point you have to see that everyone has THEIR OWN OPINION on a matter and you have to leave it at THAT. (then MOVE ON!) It does get old when the same old topics keep going back-and-forth.

The topic of "Trolling" has come up... Fingers have been pointed at Donnie Hockey, Hockey Traveler, TwoMinutesWellWorthIt. Unlike some people on here, I personally do not have any issues with any of these people. I have met most of them (not sure I've met Hockey Travler). Yes, there are times when I do not agree with some of the things they've posted. BUT I do respect their opinions. Some of their topics SEEM (in MY OPINION) to be geared toward stirring a response. Again, in MY OPINION, some people take things WAY TOO SERIOUSLY and fire back with "guns blazing" because someone said something they didn't like.

On the "other side of the fence", you've got the "fuel sources", HRC666, Randy, and a few others now-and-then, that JUMP all over these topics and "fuel" the "debate" back-and-forth.

Both parties have had their share of "taunting" the other. I can't honestly say "one side" is at fault. BOTH have equally participated.

Certain people (Randy) keep calling for me to Ban the likes of Donnie Hockey, Hockey Traveler, TwoMinutesWellWorthIt, etc... I don't see what they've done wrong? If I Ban them, why not someone like HRC666, or even you Randy?

Everyone has done pretty well at keeping topics in their appropriate area. In that respect, I do thank everyone.

In the future, I ask that EVERYONE please respect others OPINIONS. You don't have to agree with them, just respect them. If you feel the sole purpose of a post/response is to "stir the pot".. Don't fall into the "trap", just IGNORE, and move on.

Perhaps one day, the sons of former Cyclones fans and the sons of former Ducks fans will be able to sit down together as one and enjoy the great game of hockey in Cincinnati.

To answer elvis77:

I don't know where you are finding these anti-Cyclones opinions of mine, or negativity to Cyclones players in my posts, other than the Desharnais discussion, and even that opinion has nothing to do with any negativity toward the Cyclones. I've never really mentioned any other Cyclones players, other than Ehgoetz when comparing what kind of crowd his bobblehead would draw compared to Bill Cunningham. hrc has successfully planted a seed in everyone's head that I am part of this dastardly group that is out to ruin your message board. Many people on this board are so concerned about who is pro-Cyclones and who is anti-Cyclones, that they can't even read posts with an open mind. Based on my posts on this message board, standing alone without the preconceived notions, there is no way someone would come to the conclusion that I am anti-Cyclones. Go ahead, look it up. I've only met 3 people who post regularly on this board, so for the rest of the people, for all they know, I could be at every game rooting the boys on. It shouldn't matter though. I've tried to be respectful when posting my opinions, and I try to show why I've come to those opinions. Try looking at my posts as coming from a casual observer, sort of a neutral person, who doesn't care one way or another. Read what the posts actually say, without trying to find a hidden agenda within them.

Other than the Desharnais discussion, what other examples can you give me of inflammatory comments I've made?

Because they only post here to stir up attitudes because they don't have their team anymore. I actually post here to find out and share information about the Cyclones. It seems like any post they are involved in, they are putting down our team. There is a difference between opinion and what they are actually doing IMHO. They had a opinion when they first started bashing the team, now that they keep doing it... it's not a opinion anymore, it's just annoying as hell.

I'd post more but I don't even bother because of them. I can see people visiting here less because of it as well. I could see if only one person was upset, but it's clear there are several fans here saying the same thing. But it's your site, good luck.
