With Desharnais playmaking skills, he'd have been a 100-point guy in the WHA centering a line between Rick Dudley and Blaine Stoughton with the 1976-77 Stingers.
If he'd played in the WHA for the Quebec Nordiques, he would been able to accrue 125-plus points if Marc Tardif and Real Cloutier were his wingers.
He doesn't have a finisher the caliber of Stoughton, Tardif or Cloutier on his line in Montreal. I'd like to see what he could do playing on a line with someone like Thomas Vanek. |

But he isn't. He is playing in the NHL making millions of dollars. Deal with it. |

I think that was meant to be a compliment Randy. |

I don't think Donnie knows what a compliment is. I assumed it wasn't because he is referencing lower levels of hockey. |

I never thought the WHA was lower level hockey. Very comparable to the NHL, particularly since the WHA Oilers that were essentially the same team that became the NHL Oilers were one of the two best team's of the 80's. |

The WHA was a really good league. The teams the Winnipeg Jets put out on the ice the last couple years of the WHA would have been one of the best teams in the NHL. Quebec and Edmonton also had teams that matched up well with most NHL rosters. New England, Birmingham and the Stingers wouldn't have been the worst teams in the NHL.
When Winnipeg, Edmonton, New England (Hartford) and Quebec joined the NHL after the 1978-79 season, they were only able to protect two skaters and two goalies. Other players were returned to the NHL teams that held their rights. Winnipeg, for instance, lost Terry Ruskowski and Rich Preston to the Blackhawks and Barry Long to Detroit. Had those teams been able to enter the NHL with their rosters intact, Winnipeg would have been an immediate Stanley Cup contender with Edmonton not far behind.
Edmonton was able to keep two skaters plus Wayne Gretzky since nobody had his NHL rights.
The WHA was more wide open. The NHL had better defensemen and goaltending.
In typical Randy-like-fashion, he assumed the wrong thing. No surprise there.
