Date: Friday, August 15, 2008

Cyclones Re-Sign Matt Syroczynski

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones, the 2008 Kelly Cup champions, announced this morning that they have re-signed forward Matt Syroczynski for the 2008-09 season.

Syroczynski, 25, appeared in 60 games for the Cyclones last season, netting 30 goals and 20 assists for 50 points and 70 penalty minutes. Matt also collected 15 power play goals. His highlight moment of the regular season came in a two goal, three point game at Bakersfield on March 3 in a 7-2 win. He also had one game stints with both Albany and Binghamton (AHL).

Syroczynski continued his stellar season in the playoffs, registering eleven points (8-3-11) in postseason contests. The highlight of Matt’s trip to the postseason was scoring the game winning goal in game six of the Kelly Cup Finals (June 5) versus Las Vegas that secured the Cyclones first-ever league championship. He becomes the first player from the championship team to re-join the club for the upcoming campaign.

“Matt has developed into one of the ECHL’s better power forwards,” Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. “We look forward to having him take on even more of a leadership role with this team in 2008-09.”

The six-foot-five, 225 pound native of Hamburg, New York, previously played professionally in 2006-07 with Fort Wayne (UHL). Syroczynski collected 20 goals, 21 assists and 41 points in 73 games for the Komets during his rookie season as a professional. Prior to joining Fort Wayne, Matt played at the University of Vermont for two seasons (2004-05 and 2005-06), playing 68 games for the Catamounts and picking up 19 points (10-9-19).

Tickets for the 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 144. The Cyclones open the season at Wheeling on Friday, October 17 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Dayton on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30pm. There will be a special Kelly Cup championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.

It's about time we start signing players, we now have two on our team. At least we are starting out good! Glad to see Syro come back.

Lol XcloneiacX, tell your girlfriend I don't share well ;-) LMAO~jk!! Yes, very excited to see Matt return. Hopefully this will be a domino effect & we'll start signing guys left & right. I talked with Susan earlier & I have to agree, maybe they were waiting to get Chuck & Dean resigned before starting in on players...
