| That's totally uncalled for! It will be interesting to see what the league does to the Utah player. |
Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced that it has suspended Utah left wing Evan Kotsopoulos for nine games and fined him an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions in ECHL Game #73 at Victoria on Nov. 1.
Kotsopoulos was assessed a match penalty under Rule 49.3 Kicking at 9:32 of the second period. Sean O’Connor of Victoria was assessed a major penalty for fighting and a game misconduct under Rule 47.2 Aggressor during the same play.
“After reviewing additional video footage and pictures of this incident we have concluded that there was no intent by Mr. Kotsopoulos to injure Mr. O’Connor,” said ECHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Rod Pasma. “However, Mr. Kotsopoulos should have been more in control of his skates while he was in a defensive position on the ice. Players may not use their skates as a protective measure and we are fortunate there was no serious injury as a result of this incident.”
The ECHL will not issue further comment.
Kotsopoulos is suspended and fined under Rule 29 Supplemental Discipline.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, player fines collected by the ECHL are given to the PHPA for its ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund.
Kotsopoulos will miss Utah’s games vs. Ontario (Nov. 5), vs. Ontario (Nov. 7), vs. Ontario (Nov. 8), at Alaska (Nov. 14), at Alaska (Nov. 15), at Alaska (Nov. 16), vs. Las Vegas (Nov. 21), vs. Las Vegas (Nov. 22) and vs. Victoria (Nov. 26).

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

| i think the league missed the boat on this one....the guy may not have been trying to injure the other, but he clearly put his skate up in the guys face in self-defense. |

| Self defense? this isn't street hockey my friend.. You have to be tough.. you going to take down another hockey player.. you better be ready to take the punches when he comes at you.. you either fight back or curl up in a ball. Clearly his eyes were looking for a place to hit the guy with his skate.. Too dangerous.. no need to put your skate up in the face.. No Excuse for it.. none |

Nine games seems a bit light considering Grimaldi got nine for throwing a stick in the stands.
Intent to injure with a skate should be a season long suspension. If you look at the video and stills that was linked earlier in the thread it is obvious what is happening. Whether or not it was a 'momentary lapse of reason' or intentional, a few inches down and to the right and the ECHL would have made the national news and not in a good way.
The ECHL bills itself as a AA developmental league. They should be concentrating on prospects and their development and weed that stuff out to unskilled fighting leagues like the LNAH and IHL.

I thought once the players fall down to the ice that they are not suppose to continue fighting?
If he was already down on the ice, O’Connor shouldn't have kept attacking him. I think there should be a worse fine for O’Connor. |

| You can not be serious Randy. The only time that a fight stops is when the linesmen break it up. It NEVER stops when a player hits the ground. A worse punishment for continuing to fight? - you must be new to the game of hockey... |

| I'm not saying that the player on top of the fight was right in continuing the fighting but, I just don't believe that putting your skate in someones face is acceptable AT ALL. |

I'm new to hockey and still learning but I've read that once a player falls to the ice then the fighting stops. Is this not true anymore?

| Once a player falls to the ice is when the linesman is supposed to come in and TRY to stop the fight. That doesn't mean that the players are going to stop fighting, whether still upright or on the ice... |
What you do today can change the course of your life far into the future. Today is critical. Today really counts. |

That makes no sense. Then alot of players could be blamed for using their hockey skates if the other player gets anywhere near their feet. |

| The thing of it is... they weren't initially fighting from those pics... they both slid into the boards and when the Victoria guy was trying to get up... they were entangled. The Utah kid really did look like he was putting his skate up to try and hurt the Victoria kid. But even from the tape that was on that news broadcast, its hard to truly tell which direction everyone was coming from. I agree... I think the league dropped the ball on this one. Intent or no, a skate to the face could be career ending or even worse... deadly. |
