Interesting game that we pretty much gave away. The defense seems to be much improved. Goaltending seems ok (hope Lacasse is ok) minus the shootout. The offense, when they pour it on looks great.
Unfortunately when we are not in transition we sit in our zone playing defense. Cohen, Van Guilder, Beauregard and Latendressere not only are fast but can open the game wide open...when they want to. Syro looks either hurt or out of shape (not a whole lot of hustle).
St. Denis, McElroy and Lynch look good on D. Eghoetz and Rank are great penalty killers. (Does Eghoetz EVER lose a faceoff?)
Gajewski in the shootout... well.... uh...kinda makes you want to bad mouth Dov some more, eh? I'm not quite sure what was going on with him.
All in all we were pretty lucky to come out with a point. |

We're sitting back to much complacent when we get the lead, and wind up blowing it like Tuesday night against Reading, almost Wednesday night (up 4-0 after one and gave up 3 straight goals), and then tonight.
Gajewski got faked right out of his skates in the shootout, and I have yet seen us try to go top shelf in the shootouts. |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

| I would love to get an electric collar for Juice so that when he comes too far out of the net, those fans behind him, & you know who you are, can shock his butt to get back in the crease! |

| Wasn't at the game, but it's very dissapointing to hear that we missed all of our SO shots again. That's 8 straight shooters in the SO who have went scoreless after the Reading game Wednesday. That scares me more than the fact that we gave up three ... not good for Gajewski, but you can't win if you can't score. I hope it's just something they can get over. A lot of teams go through stretches where they're really good in OT/SO and horrible the next. We looked good in it in Dayton last weekend, scored three goals and Gajewski looked good as well. Lacasse, after starting out the year horrible, has looked great his last three games and I hope he's okay. Alas, it is still a 5-game point streak and hopefully we go away with two at home tomorrow. |

And for the other goal Lacassa, Well from what he told me after the game he is done for about 6 weeks. He said he sprained his knee. So I wonder who will be our other goalie??? |

Point about transition is well taken. The Cyclones certainly aren't as fluid in transition as they were last season. Still, the defense is a completely new group and I'm sure that they will 'gel' in time wrt transitional quickness.
The shoot out was flat out ugly on both ends for us. Gajewski was 'schooled' by all 3 shooters. Still, I thought both he and Locasse played quite well overall.
And the clones held an opponent to under 30 shots and actually out shot one.
Does Steve Martinson still coach Elmira. The guy behind the bench looked like him, but the team looked more like The Ice Capades. I think that we actually out hit them. Very strange. |

We got our a**es physically beaten again - can anyone other than McElroy play the body. I am certain now that the lack of physical play is a direct result of Webers coaching style. He has basically hand cuffed Woods. If you are not going to let him play his style of game then get cut him. Syro should have stayed retired if this is what he is going to bring to the team. Makway should be let go as well - the guy is a giant that plays like smurf!
Until we step up and take advatage of our size, this team will be at best mediocre. We have a very skilled offensive team but will continue to struggle unless we become more physical in the defensive zone!! |

Maybe Elmira figured out that "gooning" it up wasn't going to win anything. They consistently out hit/out penaltied other teams last year and it didn't translate into real success, even with some fairly talented players.
Makway isn't a bad defender but he doesn't seem to be a big hitter. I can live with that. He's improving and that's good.
Our designated fighter Woods is one of the smallest guys on the team and may be injured as he doesn't seem to want to drop the gloves. While his physical play doesn't do much for me he is extremely fast on the ice and should use that.
If we win the battles in the corners I could care less who has the most hits. Corner battles win games. Hits just get the crowd going. |

The trouble with this team as I see it is: 1. Chuck trying to make this team into last years team.. this team is a physical team, not a figure skating team. Woods may as well be the water boy, Chuck has taken him completly out of his game. Manway-what a *****... No one, except Mcelroy will hit anyone.
This team is a last place team, unless Chuck lets them play their style.
The fan base will begin to shrink unless the entertainment improves |

tipavlik - you are apparently new to the game. Watch a few NHL games and watch what happens in the corners. Has nothing to do with "gooning" it up. It has everything to do with taking the man off the puck. We let other teams skate all around in their offensive zone which up to last night has resulted in our goalies getting shelled with shots all night. Shots lead to goals. HOCKEY IS A CONTACT SPORT!
I about caught myself falling asleep last night as that was boring hockey. No fans equals no team. We all want to add W's to the win column however, the product that they were selling last night was not attractive to the average "American" hockey fan. If I went to last nights game as a non-hockey enthusiast looking for entertainment, I left unsatisfied with no intention of coming back!! |

JTest... nope I've been around a while. I seen many NHL games along with AHL, ECHL, NAHL and some WHL mixed in.
Games are won in the corners.. yes a physical game muscling the man off the puck; but those are not "Hits".
If you noticed we actually outshot Elmira last night. Our defense stopped a lot of chances last night. The goalie has to stop the puck that would have gone in for it to be an offical "Shot on Goal".
Elmira imploded last year due to their physical play. You have to be physical within the rules. Elmira showed much more discipline last night.
If you need more physicality try MMA or even WWF. The game has changed... its not the same as the 70s or even the 90s for that matter. The product they are selling wins games. If you don't like it, jump off the bandwagon. |

The bandwagon will be heading straight out of Cincinnati in a year or two if they continue to put a product on the ice like last night. People will not return as it is not entertaining.
tipavlik - were you even at the game last night - be honest?
Elmira, while being disciplined, physically kicked our ass last night! No team should come into our building and push us around!! |
