and by the way in regards to your quote:

"The game has changed... its not the same as the 70s or even the 90s for that matter. The product they are selling wins games. If you don't like it, jump off the bandwagon."

1. We are not winning games and won't in future if we continue with this STYLE of play
2. This is the exact reason why attendance and ratings are down on hockey at all levels!!

Quite a correlation wouldn't ya say.

OK-I've got to jump in here.

1. I thought the game last night was exciting. The crowd (what there was of us) was really into it.

2. As usual, we started out very strong, and then faded as the game progressed.

3. This team in general has improved every game, especially the defense.

4. It was hilarious to see Watson doing his best Slapshot imitation, jabbing the blade of his stick at the crowd.

5. J-Test, I find you more of a troll than a constructive poster. You seem to be here more to stir things up than to contribute.

6. Tiplavik and HRC666, I think your observations are pretty much right on.

Trust me, this is my third year as a season ticket holder. Maybe my expecations are high but trust me - I am dead right. Some of you are absolutly clueless. About as clueless as the people responsible for marketing the Cyclones.

Last years team was a team for the century. They got away with a less physical style of play because they had the skill and speed to get away with it. This years team is much larger and less skilled. Take advantage of their size or be happy with at best a 50/50 record. I am not here to "stir it up" yet to offer a different perspective on where I believe that is team needs to go.

They are looking better and I am optimistic that they can have a good season. It just frustrates me to see another team come into our building and push us around. Perhaps I have too much testosterone but the "MAN" in me wouldn't allow it if I were on the ice or behind the bench.

For those who want to continue this discussion in person - you can find me every game in section 128 row O. I'll be the guy screaming "HIT THEM"!!

I am on Jtest in this arguement. No one, no team , no one should come in our house and out play AND out hit us. Why do you think we get so badly out shot almost every game??????? Other teams know that when they play the Clones they can skate at will as they are not going to be hit and taken off the puck..
50/50 team at best - unless Weber turns them loose.....

I don't think that this year's team is much behind last year's in terms of offensive skill. Sure, there's no DD, but with Latendresse, Beauregard, Fitzpatrick, Gordon, Van Guilder, Cohen, Eghoetz and Syroczynski, this year's version probably has more offensive depth.

Defensively, the team is coming together. Add a MacDonald and another similar defensemen and this year's team is very close in quality to last year's as well. And never doubt Weber's ability to find additional good talent. Last year, McElroy and Swanson were added in mid-season.

Goaltending probably won't stack up to Cedric/G-Morris, and Daigneault-but you can't have it all.

I get hacked off watching the Cyclones's occasionally not respond to cheap shots by their opponents. I'd prefer a bit more aggressive team, but that's not the way Weber views the game. Last year's team wasn't very physical most of the time, but I never viewed the team as one which got intimidated. They'd respond when pushed around enough.

This year's team seems to have the same philosophy with respect to physical play. It's a minimalistic and responsive approach. That is Weber's preferred style since all three of his teams here have played this way. It is obviously an approach that works in today's game. Note last year's Kelly Cup:)

If anyone doesn't find the style appealing, then so be it. Hockey is no longer a sport in which intimidation is the primary vehicle for success. For better or worse. At all professional levels. From the ECHL to the NHL.

The quality of hockey to which we are treated is more than acceptable. Anyone who doesn't find this year's Cyclone product (first 4 games excepted) enjoyable probably should just accept the fact that they don't like the way hockey is played anymore.

Perhaps watching "Faces of Death" or a highlight film of NASCAR crashes would be more up the alley of such a "fan".

I've said it before and I'll say it again....I'll take this team over the Reds and Bungles ANY DAY! We are drawing a fan base along the lines of Ohio State in that mediocrity is not acceptable, especially now that we have had a championship. If the Reds or Bungles ever got over .500 this city wouldn't know what to do with itself.

I am still seeing improvement with this team from game to game, especialy over the way we started. Defense is getting better, goal tending still has a ways to go but we are not giving up 6.00 GAA like after the first 4 games, and the penalty kill has improved dramatically. Chuck knows what he is doing and is supported by ownership (and there is another unique concept).

...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones!

well said hrc....in addition i'd like to add that anyone who has listened to chuck when asked about "checking" style hockey knows he's not against it, he just doesn't coach his team to play it. in fact he doesn't refer to checks or hits but instead refers to them as "bumps" and at times you're hear him say "our guys need to do a better job of finishing their bumps." chuck would rather his guys play the puck and only go for the big hit when it's the RIGHT play. most of the time big hits do little more than make a lot of noise and take both players out of the play and does nothing to gain control of the puck. the entire point of checking someone is to gain control of the puck. in staurday night's game tj had two big hits that accomplished just that, unfortunately there were some extra curriculars after the second hit with negated the turnover it created.

the bottom line is the guys are skating around looking for the hit 1st and the puck second, they're going to spend more time skating around their own zone than they are now...not to mention the penalties they'll probably end up taking.
