You are correct. I've heard quite a lot of excitement of the possibility of Dov coming back this year (I'm unaware of his current situation so not here to argue the possibility of it), but if this team is giving up 40+ shots a night, I certainly don't want Dov as my goaltender. Now, the last several games have been no indication of that, and I hope it was just something that happened at the beginning of the year while the team was just starting to gel. I like Dov, and have no doubt he can be a solid goaltender at the ECHL level, but he's very inconsistent. His great record from last year was pretty misleading because of the team in front of him. I remember at one point he had a record of something like 10-1 and I counted that in over half he gave up something like 4 or 5 goals, but our team could easily bail him out, keep in mind this was when our defense wasn't letting in a plethora of SOGs either.

anytime i respond to a post about a player from last season being able to help us this season i feel the need to state the disclaimer...I KNOW THIS IS NOT LAST YEARS TEAM.

i can't help but get fired up anytime i hear people bag on dov. while his name is not on the cup, he is a huge reason we had the season we had. he was 20-3-0-1, he was did not register an OT loss and only lost 1 of the shootouts he was in; which is a better OT/shootout record than ceddy had. i went through the score sheets and dov was involved in far more 1 or 2 goal games than blow outs. he had a 2.37gaa and a .914 save percentage. his numbers rival ceddy's; with the excpetion of the 5 shutouts that ceddy posted. dov played in 4 more games and faced 65 more shots than ceddy and had one less loss. if dov's record is misleading then so is the record of of the other goalies that played here last year. ceddy had a couple shaky games as well; giving up 5 to elmira, 4 in an OT loss to augusta (a team that dov held to just one goal).

now i'm not saying we should build the guy a statue or anything, but lets give some credit where credit is due. dov's name may not be on the cup but he was a greatly important piece to last years team, just as ceddy, max and cody were.

moving onto this year...yes we have a different team and it's hard to say how dov would do here this year, if he indeed had the opportunity to return. the same can be said in regards to any of the goalies that played here last year, however. the goalie is the LAST line of defense and as has been mentioned, if the team gives up 40+ shots per game any goalie is going to be in trouble. you don't have to go any further than to look at max's numbers this year in charlotte to illustrate that a goalie is usually only as good as the team in front of him.

conrad martin....welcome back, provided his hearts in it. if he really wants to be playing he should be a huge help to this defensive core.

billy irish-baker...your heart, determination and tenacity will be missed. you may not have seen ton of minutes, but you gave everything, and usually more, than you had to give every minute you got. you're hard work was a integral part of last years success. i can only hope you were with this team long enough to have a little bit of that heart, determination and tenacity rub off on the new guys. i wish you the best of luck. thank you for the memories.

I am not one who ever starts talks of players from last year returning, I was simply responding to one. So please, save yourself some time and hop off your high horse of thinking you're the only voice of reason of the board who has the wisdom to know that the team of this year and last are completely different.

Secondly, my post about Dov wasn't supposed to be taken as literally to the point of you pulling up those kind of numbers. I stated that I liked him and have no doubt he has/can be a great goaltender at the ECHL level. It's my opinion that I think he would be very inconsistent with a defense like this year's compared to last. As far as your comment saying other goalies that played here had misleading records, absolutely I think so. I think Cedrick, Dov, Max & Cody were all very talented goalies but our defensive core was probably one of the best the league has seen. That being said, Desjardins would be my pick in the aforementioned "pressure situation" than Morris. You are dead on with the Max/Charlotte situation which just proves the point I'm getting it here. It is pointless to try to pick out specific bad games against what kind of teams, but since you did so for Desjardins, I have quite a few pop in my head for the latter, like the home game v. Dayton in which Dov let in the first 4 5 shots he faced (I believe, he might have made one save in there) before being pulled and replaced by Desjardins, something we rarely see of Weber.

Maybe they'll revisit some of the goalies from open training camp (???)

Very happy Conrad is back - best of luck to Billy!

Someone told me at the beginning of the season that Conrad Martin walked out of Hamilton's training camp and that he talked to coach Weber and Weber told him he would never allow him to come back to Cincinnati??!! I thought that was a bull**** rumor, but really didn't know. Anyway, I am glad to have Conrad back!
