Cyclones Acquire Goaltender Martin Houle From Las Vegas!

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The 2008 Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones, announced today that they have acquired goaltender Martin Houle from the Las Vegas Wranglers in exchange for future considerations. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.

Houle, 23, has played in three games this season with Las Vegas (ECHL) turning in a 1-2 record with a 3.03 goals against average. Last season Martin split time between Wheeling (ECHL) and Philadelphia (AHL). With the Nailers, he compiled a 5-13-3 record with a 3.83 goal against average. As a member of the Phantoms, Houle posted a 2-5 record with a 2.85 goals against average.

The five-foot-eleven, 180 pound native of Montreal is in his fourth professional season. An eighth round pick of Philadelphia in the 2004 draft, Houle has played in one game in the NHL. During his junior career, Martin posted a 65-51-9 record and nine shutouts with Cape Breton (QMJHL).

Houle is expected to be in Cincinnati this weekend.

Tickets for the 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. The Cyclones return to U.S. Bank Arena on Friday and Saturday night at 7:30pm against Wheeling.

I doubt neither are gone....I don't think Kyle has the stamina to play two games in a row.

87 AHL games-this is the type of goalie we needed. If he's a team player ( and Chuck will
make sure of it),I see him as the main goalie and can help mentor Kyle into the FUTURE ECHL
main man.I expect Loic to be back on the ice when healthy if Kyle doesn't settle down.I say
use Houle two games to one for Kyle for the next few weeks.

Martin Houle should be a veteran presence in goal and in practice for our guys... hopefully a "Crash Davis" for our young goaltenders.

The guy has decent experience in both the ECHL and the AHL (Even a period in the NHL if you look carefully...Yeah, he's been to the show..). While I doubt he is the next All-Star goalie representing Cincinnati he should bring stability to the position and give Gajewski a well deserved night off at least until Lacasse can return to the ice.

@Jtest, find someone else out there who's willing to trade for FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS- and then you can question this pick up. This could be a 'friendly trade'. Both the WRANGLERS and the CLONES are struggling right now...this is quite possibly the boost that both teams need to 'get a clue'.

Some of the guys that are on CYCLONES CONTRACTS and not AFFILIATE CONTRACTS better start picking up their game or they will be packing their bags for VEGAS.

Warm weather, hot chicks, gambling? If I'm a Cyclone I'll volunteer to go.

Amen.

Houle may not be the second coming, but he's a definite upgrade from Goalinski.

Weber had to do something. 4 more weeks of unabated Gastinkski and we stood a good chance of being 10 points out of a playoff spot.

Houle is cool.

I guess we are going to have to wait and see how he is if plays this weekend. Maybe he can direct our defensemen while he is back there.

I really thought our defense would pick up with McDonald and Conrad coming back. Maybe Coach just needs some time to find a line up that will work, plus the new goal tender should help out.

...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones!

I remember last year when we got Cody all people looked at was his
Phoenix record.Needless to say he pulled our butts out of the fire
the last month of the season.Maybe he isn't Cedrick or Dov or even
Maxime, but he can't be any worse than night after night of Kyle.

A goalie is sometimes only as good as the defense in front of him. We helped Cody look good with our strong defensive line last year! If anyone remembers, he had a hard time staying in net and like to go out and play the puck a lot.

I just hope he is the veteran leadership that we seem to be lacking right now.

Ok just to put this out there and I know another person has. Cody had a bad record, and look how amazin ghe played for us.

Houle has some good seasons and bad seasons, goaltending is a bitch of a job, sometimes you play awesome and sometimes you'll play crappy.

Give the guy a chance before you judge.
