Minor league hockey as a whole is in a world of hurt.

My pet theory is that the ownership of most minor league hockey teams are willing to operate their teams at a reasonable loss. Many owners have primary business from which they use some of the profits generated in these businesses to support their hockey ventures. The concept of "tax write-offs" only makes sense so long as the owner has income to balance his loss incurred on his team.

The economic turmoil has seen three things impact this situation. First, many of these owners have seen their primary businesses suffer. Second, the economic situation has had an adverse effect upon attendance. And third, to this point of the economic crisis, wealthy citizens have been hurt worse than us commoners. With the tanking of the stock market, real estate and crummy interest rates, the wealthy have seen their net worth plummet and their income-yielding assets return sink to near nothing.

Evidently the value of an ECHL franchise has sunk significantly. When franchises were reportedly valued in the $1-2 million range, it was worthwhile for ownership to keep the rights to their unprofitable franchises by finishing out a season and then unloading their team. While I can't verify the value of an ECHL franchise (I haven't any access to records of sale transactions for ECHL franchises, I think that the fact that one ownership group and now possibly another are quitting in midseason and forfieting their franchises supports this idea.

The ECHL will probably undergo a fair amount of turmoil over the course of the next year. The good news is that there are many healthy teams and teams like Fort Wayne of the IHL may have no option but to join our league because of the uncertainty of the future of the IHL. Toledo is coming on board next season and I always hold out hope that when a professional hockey team returns to Indianapolis that it will operate as an ECHL franchise.

Merry Christmas to all. Even Justin Johnson

Here is the link. Sad...two teams in one season.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

ZINGER!!!!!
