Cyclones Place Ryan Toomey on Suspended List

Date: 12/31/2008

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The 2008 Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones, announced today that they have placed forward Ryan Toomey on the club’s suspended list. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.

Toomey, 25, quit the team on Wednesday morning and will not accompany the team to Wheeling tonight. Ryan will be heading to Finland to play hockey. He has been placed on the Cyclones suspended list and his rights are maintained by the club. He will be unable to play hockey for any other North American professional hockey team while under suspension. He is the fifth player to have been placed on the suspended list this season.

The five-foot-nine, 180 pound native of Bolton, Ontario appeared in nine games with the Cyclones this season and had a goal and four assists for five points and four penalty minutes. Toomey previously had aborted his fifth season of collegiate play at Mercyhurst, before joining Cincinnati.

Tickets for the 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 144. The Cyclones host the Wheeling Nailers on Tuesday, January 6 at 7:30pm. The Trenton Devils are in on January 9 and 10 for 7:30pm clashes both nights. The club is now offering Family Four Packs (four tickets, four hot dogs, four Pepsis, four Cyclones winter hats, four public skate passes at SportsPlus and a SportsPlus game card) for just $69!

In MY opinion, this doesn't look good for the team as a whole. Although like others have stated before, maybe the players are wanting to make more money so they'll be set later in life. Who knows?

Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.

I just think something is going on inside the organization at this point that we don't know about. Players are hoping on the fastest ticket out of town. The other issue is the players that saw the video and heard about how great of a turn out there was for the playoffs last year and when they come to play here and only get 2,000 ish a night. It has to be hard to play for that size of a crowd.

Yeah, there's gotta be something going on behind the scenes.

He who laughs last laughs best.

Keep in mind that your average team is a mere six points ahead of ours with 60% of the season remaining to be played. Had the Clones not thrown up upon themselves in that game where they allowed 2 goals in the last 3 minutes, the difference would be 3 lousy points.

So there.

The good news is that only one of the "quits" really hurt ... that of course being Houle. I'm not counting BIB, because he retired, which is a different story entirely.

Oh PLEASE Bags, DON'T compare our beloved Cyclones with Mike Brown! No matter how bad things may get with the team and their record, and no matter how we the fans may differ in our opinions about players and particular games, I don't believe there is ONE fan who does not believe this organization would do what they could to win. I think the biggest problem is the bar has now been set to high after a Cinderella season.

...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones!

Hmm, with 7 teams in the division, I would call 4th place the average in the division. 3rd, Dayton, could be considered mildly above the average, and 5th, where Cincy sits right now, mildly BELOW average. 7th out of 12 for the conference = BELOW average. 11th out of 21 for the league puts Cincy as the average. As far as points go, the average for the league is 33. Exactly the amount Cincy has, the average.

Come on Joe, you gotta come up with something better than that. I can run the numbers too.

Okay I have to agree with hockeygod and Susan, there HAS to be something going on within the organization for all these players to just quit, and this does not look good on Cincinnati as a whole. This is getting ridiculous and by far the most weird season I have ever seen!!!

Our average team does lead the season series against your above average team, so that doesn't make the bummers look too good.
