Cyclone Ehgoetz Selected Assistant Captain of All-Star Team

Date: 01/15/2009

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The 2008 Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones announced today that center Barret Ehgoetz will serve as an assistant captain for the ECHL All-Star Game The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.

Ehgoetz will serve as an assistant captain for the American Conference, which is comprised of the ECHL’s North and South Divisions. Kevin Baker of Florida will serve as the American’s captain and Travis Morin of South Carolina will be the other assistant captain.

Ehgoetz, 27, currently ranks seventh in the ECHL in scoring with 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points. He has recorded ten multiple point games on the year. Barret has played the second-most games in team history (178), is second on the career scoring list (147), ranks first on the career assists list (94) and holds the club record for career shorthanded goals (five). Last night was the first hat trick (three goal game) of his professional career—as he netted four goals and an assist in a 10-4 drilling of Wheeling.

The five-foot-nine, 170 pounder from Kincardine, ONT is in his fourth professional season. Ehgoetz played his rookie season with Utah (ECHL), before coming to the club during 2006-07. This will be his first trip to the ECHL’s All-Star Game. He will replace teammate Olivier Latendresse on the roster and in the starting lineup for the game.

The National Conference, comprised of the West and Pacific Divisions, will be led by captain Matt Shasby of Alaska. The assistant captains for the Nationals will be Kenny MacAuley and Cory Urquhart of Stockton. Urquhart played for the Cyclones in 2006-07 and 2007-08 while on assignment from the Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs.

The ECHL All-Star Game will be played at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 7pm. Tickets for the event can be purchased by calling 610-898-7825.

Tickets for the 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. The Cyclones host the Trenton Devils on January 9 and 10 for 7:30pm clashes both nights. The club is now offering Family Four Packs (four tickets, four hot dogs, four Pepsis, four Cyclones winter hats, four public skate passes at SportsPlus and a SportsPlus game card) for just $69!

STEWART GETS THE CALL: In other Cyclones related news, right wing Greg Stewart has been recalled by the Montreal Canadiens from the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL). Stewart played for the Cyclones during 2006-07, picking up eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points and 126 penalty minutes in 62 games. Greg played one game for Montreal last season.

Yea, and former Cyclone Cory Urqhart is an Alternate Captain for the other side. How ironic is that? :-)

Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.
