Last year's Kelly Cup Championship Team truly was a special ECHL team. I just did a check of who is playing where and here are the breakdowns of the 24 players who appeared in playoff games during the KC run:
In the AHL all season: Desharnais, Desjardins, Aubin, Bonneau, Maki, Russell, and Daoust (7)
In the AHL for a significant stretch: MacDonald, Deitsch, and Latendresse (3)
AHL call up for at least one game: Syroczynski (1), McElroy (7), Gleed (1), and Beauregard (8) (4 players)
Europe who would have been in AHL: Schmidt (1)
Quit Training Camp or would have been in AHL: Martin (1)
Europe: Reynolds, Perkins*4 playoff games (2)
Retired: Irish Baker (1)
In ECHL and not yet called up (but possible in all cases): Ehgoetz, Starling, Swanson, and Daigneault (4). Note: All except Ehgoetz have played a significant amount of AHL games, though Starling's (36 games) were years ago.
In the ECHL: Bushee (1) *one playoff game
So, basically every single player on last year's playoff squad-save for Perkins and Irish Baker-was to some varying degree an AHL player. I view Eghoetz and Reynolds as possible AHL role players despite never appearing in the AHL. No opinion on Bushee.
Last year really was special when one reflects upon it. It's why I want to weep every time I see MacLeod, Lynch, Gordon or Zero on the ice. I simply break into tears when I see Sawatske

LOL Dude, your full of useless knowledge. Our who squad last year was a TRUE AHL team. I'd put them up against any AHL team, any day.
Kinda makes ya think about starting up a "What if the Cyclones moved up to the AHL" forum. |
