| HRC666 and I traveled to Cleveland yesterday for the Dogs' game in hopes to see all our former Clones in action. We were much disappointed ans Beau is our for the year, Latty, did not make the trip, DD was injured the night before and did not make it to Cleveland, and Ceddy played the night before and did not play. However, we did get to see Aubin, Stewey, and Rusty. Both teams looked pretty weak. If there was any question about past and present Clones playing at the next level, they are gone now. What I saw last night was one heck of a sloppy game. ANY, and I mean ANY, of our players, this year or last, can play in the "A". The size difference isn't much, the hitting was no harder, and the speed was at times A LOT slower the what we see at USBA. Overall, it was a good trip. A lot shorter than I expected. We got home about 2:30. It was good to see a handful of Cyclone fans in attendance. Will make the trip again!! |

Agreed it was a very sloppy game. Passing was pathetic. Would have loved to see DD, Latandresse and/or Desjardins, but it wasn't to be.
Don't know about MacLeod, Sawataske, Zero or Gordon suiting up in the "A", but after taking in two NHL games last week (in Tampa and Atlanta), it's pretty obvious that the ECHL is much closer to the AHL than the AHL is to the NHL.
Aubin could be back here based on what I saw. Very unimpressive. Stewart and Russell are there to stay. Still hard to believe that Stewart has been called up twice to the NHL. But, one game is just that. It's hard to give a fair analysis based on just one game. Still, it's easy to see why DD is picking up where he left off last season. He's got 13 points in his last 14 games, and I have no reason to believe that he wouldn't have been one of the dominant players on the ice Saturday in Cleveland had not the injury kept him out.
Heckler is going to start demanding appearance fees. It seemed like he was asked to pose for a picture every twelve seconds. If he ever took the mask off, those requests would plummet like housing prices!

in the event you haven't heard....beau is out with season ending knee surgery and latty was out with season ending shoulder surgery.
other than that it sounds like you saw a stinker of a game. the AHL games i've seen have been overall faster, with crisper passing, and better overall execution than we get at the echl level. i haven't followed lake erie much this year but in past years they haven't been all that good and right now hamilton is really depleted, so you probably saw what amounted to 2 teams with nothing but 3rd and 4th lines going at it; and yeah 3rd and 4th AHL lines are often times not far from 1st ECHL lines.... |
